I just got back from my doctor appointment and found out my baby is breech. I am 35 weeks along. I also found out that I am 1 1/2cm dilated and my doctor said if it were not for my baby being breech I could have him anytime. My next doctor appointment is in two weeks and he said we will wait to see if the baby turns or not and if not we will discuss whether or not I want him to try to turn the baby and have a c-section. I had a vaginal with my first. Have any of you had breech babies and your baby ended up turning the right way? Also, what would you recommend if it came down to it, a c-section or the doctor trying to turn baby?

My doctor said not too worry because "most" babies turn, what is your opinion? Also, my doctor saying that I could have the baby anytime if it weren't for being breech is scary, what if my baby drops and my water breaks, what will happen then?

I had a vaginal birth with my first. I went in to be induced w/my second at about 40 weeks. When my doctor came in to examine me, he discovered she was breech. He said the dr. that trained him no longer performs vaginal breech deliveries because they're too dangerous for the baby and mom. When I asked about trying to turn her he said that would be far more painful than a c-section. I was scared and horrified about it since it's a fairly major surgery. After it was over, I was SO suprised at how fast it went and how quickly I recovered. Much faster than my vaginal delivery with my first (4 hours of pushing, btw). If you do have a c-section, the key is to not lay around, that can cause infection. I got up and moved around as much as I could. Don't run a marathon but getting up and walking around is good. And gosh darn it, you can't do any vacuuming for awhile. :) Hope this helps, GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!!

I found out my son was breech just two days before he was born. My OB/GYN swore he was head down until he felt my son's foot during an exam. At 35 weeks, it is unlikely that your baby will turn by himself. The doctor will have to do an ultrasound to find out if there is still enough room in your uterus to try turning the baby from the outside. I've heard that is pretty uncomfortable. I didn't even have the option...my son was already too big to even try.

Do you know which part of the baby is closest to your cervix? If the baby is coming out butt first (called frank breech), the doctors may do an x-ray to make sure your pelvis is big enough to try a vaginal delivery. It is possible for things to come out just fine if the baby is bottom first. If one or both legs come out first (called footling breech), your doctor won't even give you the choice. You WILL have a C-section, since this can be dangerous for both of you.

Good luck!

Mine was breech and did not turn. I had a C Section cause the baby was to big to turn. A C Section is painful and it will keep you down and out for about a week. Turing a baby can be painful to, but having it vaginally means you will recover quicker. I guess it all depends on how well you handle pain. And not to scare you, but I knew a lady that had her baby turned and it wrapped the cord around its neck and also broke the baby's collar bone, but the baby survived the ordeal. And that does not happen often, just one of those chances.

if it came to turning your baby or a c-section I would have a c-section just because I wouldn't want my baby's cord to get wrapped around his neck and choke him. I had a c-section with my first and I have to have another one with my second. If the baby wasn't breech you could have the baby, Why not see if you can take him now. that way you don't stress the baby if your water does break and he still hasn't turned. Good luck.

an option that I want to bring up is dilivering the baby breach, you can give birth vaginally if the baby is complete breach or frank breach (but not with transverse or footling)

I would recommend trying to turn first and if that dosn't work try for a vaginal birth if he is in a good position, a c-section is major surgery and should always be the last option.

some don't turn on their own. My latest baby sister was breached. She didn't turn on her own. I wouldn't want the doctor to turn the baby, something might go wrong. My mom doesn't trust doctors especially with an unborn baby, but opted to have a c-section. Id rather have a safe baby and a tummy scar....Good luck.
