This is a common condition that I have seen in our barn kitties when they begin to open their eyes. For this reason, I usually call the vet and ask if I can come in and pick up a tube of ophthalmic ointment that has neomycin and polymyxin B (saves $ on an office visit; you can also purchase it online).
Take a soft washcloth soaked in warm water to gently remove the debris and hard crusties from the kittens eyes. They will begin to open, so gently pull the eyelid up and squeeze a short line of the ointment into each eye. You will notice an improvement, but may need to repeat as necessary and also may need to treat the other kittens if their eyes become infected.

Warm water on a clean cotton ball helps, but be gentle. I had a kitten take longer then two weeks to open her eyes so make sure to give it time. At two weeks of age about all a vet can do is give her/him antibiotics. Some vets told me when i went through this that they couldnt give my little kitty anything, so I kept calling different ones until one gave her antibiotics and like that , it cleared up :) GL

Another vote for the boric acid and warm water. This works very well and can save you a trip to the vet.
Infected eyes are VERY common, particularly in kittens born outside or whose mother is an outdoor cat.

If the kitten looks sick then it needs veterinary attention. Has your cat been immunized against cat flu? as this is a dreadful condition and is not only expensive to treat, but often the cars NEVER fully recover from the effects of it.

I always mix some boric acid and warm water and wipe their eyes with it. My mom told me to do this and it always seemed to help. If the kitten doesn't open its eyes soon, take it to the vet. I don't know where my mom got the boric acid but it comes in a powder form. You could ask at the drug store.

When I got my cat, he had the same problem, with only one eye. We took q-tips, dipped them in warm water, and cleaned out his eye multiple times a day. About a week later his eye was open and clean. He's 3 now and hasn't had any problems since.
Good luck!

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection which is common in cats...the kitten needs veterinary attention for some antibiotics...
