K this is a really amazing site for Betta fish and breeding them. I found it when i was first trying to breed my betta fish. It talks you through every step that you need to know about your bettas. Good luck!

Generally biting off fins is a bad sign. Also the male should have the bubble nest built before you put the female in. You skipped the vital let them get use to each before they can attack each other. You need to separate them, and do a lot of reading before you try again. It's a complex proccess both bettas need to be prepped. See link.

Breeding Bettas is not as simple as putting a male and a female together, as you seemingly have. As a matter of fact it's quite complicated and time consumming. If you want to look into actually trying your hand at Betta breeding, I suggest you first read up on the subject.

This site is a good place to start.

First, separate the fish and feed the female really well until she is nice and fat.
Then add the male for a couple of days. If all he does is chase her around and harrass her, she isn't ready. Put them apart for another couple of weeks and try again. Have brine shrimp eggs ready for when the fish lays eggs, as the fry will hatch in about 3 days and need freshly hatched baby brine shrimp to feed on. Good luck. <>>><

You only put in the eggs from the female Betta in your tank. The male will take care of the rest. Get the female out, put her in a separate bowl or tank. When she lays her eggs, take her back out, and gently scoop out the eggs, and then put them in with the male Betta.

This means that they are about to kill each other. Gill flaring is a threat. Also, what did you think when the female attacked the male? Machoism? NEVER keep two bettas together

They may not be mating - sometimes female betta's are just really agressive.
The male usually makes his nest before he mates.
I would separate them.
When you see a lot of bubbles at the top of his tank then he may ready for mating.

first, you never put any two betta fishes in the same bowl or tank because they will attack each other. on the second part, I don't know.
