I mean, when Clorox is making bleach, where do they get it?

Chlorine gas can be produced by the electrolysis of Sodium Chlo rid (Salt) , Chlorine gas is used as disinfectant for water , the products of electrolysis of salt are, chlorine gas which liquefied and filled in cylinders, Caustic Soda, HCl . clorox which is a trade name for sodium hypochlorite Na0Cl(4%solution ) is used for household uses , produced by the reaction of chlorine with caustic soda and diluted with distilled water.

chlorine is found in most salts, Mercury cell electrolysis was the first method used to produce chlorine on an industrial scale. Titanium anodes are located above a liquid mercury cathode and a solution of sodium chloride is positioned between the electrodes. When an electrical current is applied, chloride is released at the titanium anodes and sodium dissolves into the mercury cathode forming an amalgam.

The amalgam can be regenerated into mercury by reacting it with water, producing hydrogen and sodium hydroxide. These are useful byproducts.

This method consumes vast amounts of energy and there are also concerns about mercury emissions.

It can also cause a build up of fluid in the lungs and pain in the chest.

In 1991, a Peruvian government decided to remove the chlorine in its country’s water supply. The results were devastating and led to a cholera epidemic that spread across South America and claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people.

Chlorine is one of the components in a wide variety of pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals containing chlorine include those for treating malaria, whooping cough, typhoid fever and leukemia. chlorine gas can be made through several redox reactions which include oxidizing the chloride ion (Cl-) to Cl neutral which bonds with another one of itself to form Cl2. I'm not sure how this is done industrially, though...

It is a natural element found in nature. . . check your periodic table. . . it is a gas though so they would have to seperate it from air. . . it is also found in salt. . . which is Sodium-Chloride
