You are looking at it all wrong. Use this time to drive them crazy. Depending on their ages give them chores that you hate and they despise. Drag them to places only you want to go to and wear outfits that totally embarrass them! I have a big red hat with purple ostrich feathers I wear to humiliate my girls with. And I am not even old enough to be a red hatter.

Or send them to grandmas for a week to torture them and send their noisey toys - you know the ones grandma ______ or aunt and uncle bought. Send it with rechargeable batteries and a battery charger you teach them to use for added joy.

lol

Enjoy them while they are young. I miss being able run around and goof off with my girls.

When I was a kid, we went to school within walking distance from the house. We went home for lunch every day, and a parent was there.

Today, parents use school as a babysitter--and it's really wrong. For instance, in New York City, when Guiliani was still mayor, all major businesses were closed due to a blizzard--but New York City Public Schools remained opened--which was dumb--because many of the teachers do not live in the city.

No, and as a child of someone who thinks that way... we kids pick up on that and feel like you don't love us and don't want to spend time with us. It's not like we got that many days off! Atleast we didn't when I was in school... and I only graduated in 2003 so I'm sure things haven't changed too much...

Where I grew up, school holidays were designed to torture kids who would rather have spent them in a cardboard box than at home.
