Mabye they dont want the person that wants to see it hurt their feelings. Say if your friend wanted you to watch a movie that they loved with them, during it you feel asleep, well if you say I am awake you dont want to hurt thier feelings. I dont know it is hard to explain.

I fall asleep 95 times out of 100 when I watch a movie at home. If there is a really good movie coming out that I don't want to miss I have to go to the cinema to see it. That's the only way I stay awake. The only other solution is to watch part before falling asleep and then rewinding it and watching the rest the next morning. I don't lie about falling asleep during movies. Maybe they're afraid of disappointing you?

Some people lie about it because it hurts the other people's feelings to know that you fell asleep while spending time with them. What people don't take into consideration is that even though we are tired enough to fall asleep while watching a good movie, we are still there with that person instead of at home taking a nap.

Because they found a movie dull, but coulnd't make their eyes close, or get out of their chairs. But some times the claim isn't a lie.

Well, because most people that fall asleep and lie about it are young. But the people who fall asleep regulary, are old. The young people do not want to "become old", and the old people do not want to be seen as old. As simple as that.
