There are many different anti-depressant drugs on the market. Wellbutrin (bupropion), for example, is more frequently associated with weight loss than weight gain. Discuss your treatment options with your physician.
FYI - If you are currently being treated by your Primary Care Physician for depression, you should consider consulting a Psychiatrist or Advanced Practice Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner. Their practices are limited to Behavioral Health treatment, and for that reason, they are "up" on the most current research and studies. Internal Medicine physicians and Family Practitioners have very limited training in the treatment of psychological/psychiatric disorders.

That's a tough one. Those medications are notorious for causing weight gain. What can be done kinda depends on which type of antidepressant you are taking. Some cause more weight gain than others, so if this is a big concern of yours, try talking to your doctor about alternatives. The last thing we'd want is for you to stop taking the med b/c of side effects. Wellbutrin is a good alternative (maybe, b/c I don't know your history) that doesn't cause weight gain. In fact, it sometimes causes wt loss.
Otherwise, the only way to combat the weight gain is diet and exercise. Seems obvious, but that's basically all you can do.

You can change meds. But remember that not everything works. If you've tried several, and this is the only one that works- then it's a tradeoff. There are lot of medications out there, and they have different side effects. Unfortunately, weight gain is often one of them. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask you doctor. If you're very much overweight he will want to consider the risk to your health from obesity.

Exercise...i'm not talking about pumping iron at a gym
Maybe a brisk walk, a bike ride
It will increase your metabolism and probably make you feel better
Mention the side affect to your Dr. There is more than one anti depressant out there
Good luck

if you don't like the side effects of the pills your on you should talk to your psychiatrist or doctor about finding a different pill that may be better for you. If you don't want to change pills try getting more active (talking walks etc) or try to eat healthier. But if you're already excercising and eating good and your still gaining weight I would suggest getting on a different pill.
