I normally drink 2 -24oz beers at 8.1% for a nice buzz, and if I drink anymore of it or anything else, I get all blotchy. I drink a 6er of regular domestic and still get blotchy with no buzz. I am not sure if it is the alcohol or the beer contents I am reacting to. I am 32, 5'9", 180#. Yes, I have a nice tolerance to alcohol. I don't drink hard alcohol, so I don't know what the effects of that would be.

The only way you would know for sure which ingredient you were allergic to would be to go to the allergist and get a "skin prick" test to test you for particular allergens. It could even be sulfites if the beer your are drinking contains them.

Developing a reaction to bad beer is just evolution.
Seriously, what type of 8.1% beer are you drinking? I don't see why drinking a domestic would cause a reaction, because it would have less hops, barley and other ingredients than what you're used to drinking. Unless you are drinking an 'Ice' beer which just uses sugar to raise the alcohol content (like malt liquor). I suppose it's possible that you have some type of reaction to yeast, but I honestly don't know...

This is a serious question because allergies are a serious matter. Many people have allergies to moulds, and yeast is a mould. You need to be tested. The blotchiness is an indicator that it could be dangerous. It will not necessarily be just a matter of quitting the beer. If you have an allergy to moulds it would mean that you may also be allergic to bread, penicillin, mushrooms, etc. I have mould allergies and have gone into shock when I took penicillin. Take my advice and get the testing done. Good luck !

no i dont think so at all. If that were true that would be really sad. But I know my mother and I get blotchy necks and rosey cheeks when we drink. Its definately not an allergic reaction. Just the way your body or skin reacts to the alcohol. No harm. no worries. Enjoy your beer :D

Although alcohol can be the culprit, it usually is not. The culprits are usually the additives used in the manufacturing process. Some of the possible culprits include:

Brewers yeast
Corn
Eggs
Grapes
Molds
Sulfites
Pesticides

Try Michilobe (sp?) Light, Ive heard people can tolerate that for some reason.

no, it is not beer but the beer's ingredients maybe (it is complex not as pure as pure alcohole, my friend was allargic to wheat)

What is beer?

The basic ingredients of beer are water, malt, hops, and yeast.

Many people are allergic to eg yeast so speak to allergist as soon as you can as even your food can get you a bit sick.

i dont think you can have an allergic reaction to alcohol (the molecule isnt complex enough for your immune system to react with it), but you might be allergic to some component of the beer. try a different brand of beer or go to mixed drinks

If you were allergic to alcohol you would know it. A typical allergic reaction is you stop breathing. This is called anaphylactic shock and it can be deadly. It is the same type of reaction people have to bee and wasp stings.

It is possible. I would see a Doctor to get a more informed opinion and of course lay off of beer until you get a professional opinion.
