I still seriously doubt that Donald actually typed anything on a keyboard (regardless what Answers has said previously). I think I can sum up in one word why he gets the featured spot (other celebrities, too).
Traffic.
Trump, Cruise, Chopra, von Savant, whether you like them or not .. whether you think they've asked anything all that earth-shattering or not ... they generate traffic. And in the world of internet commerce, traffic=profit.
A normal guy could ask 1000 good questions, but he's probably not going to generate any significant interest for people to look at the site, join the site, stay on the site .. and start clicking ads on the site. Those celebrities will.
So, what makes Trump so special. Money. Not the money that he's made for himself, but the money that Yahoo! hopes that he can make for them.

I think it's hilarious. He doesn't want "free advice on how to get richer", lol. When you think about it, the question is essentially "hi folks, can all of you tell me what incredible , amazing things you can all learn from..oh..well...shucks--MOI??"
He certainly hasn't learned anything about humility. Or subtlety, for that matter. I don't mean to run the man down--you know--good luck to him--but yes I think the huge scrambling fuss is out of proportion to the man's actual wisdom.Oh well. As someone else said--money gets people all in a frenzy, eh?
So yes--that's why. Because it was bound to create a HUGE response.( and yes, I answered :P)

Did ya see what he asked? He wants free advice from us on how to run his business better. And he's getting it. The rich get richer...
And did you see the question from Marilyn vos Savant? She wants to know how we can get our kids to achieve their full potential. And yet, she's reputed to have the biggest brain on the planet, and she's an advice columnist! Talk about falling short of your potential! Jeez!

He has made over a billion dollars on shrewd business ventures. It kind of separates him from the rest of us in that regard...don't you think?
