The original song was recorded by Kitty Wells, an old Country singer from days gone by. Then it was "trashed" and re-recorded by "Rude Boys"

There are several different versions of this song. One is by Bobby Marchan, another is by The Boswell Sisters, and another is by Rude Boys. There's one by ATL, too. From your description, you're probably looking for the Bobby Marchan version, which is an oldies classic.
