I like some country myself, but a lot of it probably has to do with where you're from and what you can relate to. A lot of country reflects life in the middle and south of the US. Beyond that, a lot of people just don't like the way country singers sound... the southern drawl that many singers have is something most people don't hear, and be it preference or prejudice, they just don't like it. Still, just listen to what you like and don't worry about everyone else... music means something different to anybody anyway

I've listend to country since I was a baby, I love it, but I prefer the older stuff like 90's and what not, the newer stuff is bordering on the lines of idiocity, but it's still ok...
I don't only listen to country, I don't understand how anyone can listen to one type of music and nothing else, so I mix it up a bit. I've never understood why people think country is so bad, it's no worse than some of the other stuff is out there and it's sometimes just as graphic as rap songs, they just talk about women as people and not things.
Sorry I can't help answer you're question as to why no one likes country other than they're too caught up in sterotypes.

You're targetting a more or less narrow margin. Depends what it is. Remember " The Gambler " Kenny Rogers? I thought it was good because it spoke about life. Generally. Too, country is a form of Pop with a lean toward folk, or ballad.
Being individuals with different backgrounds, we're all going to like something else. Me? I look for something that nurtures the spirit and celebrates life in a beautiful, articulate way that is inclusive of the whole creation. Not just a region or a way of thinking. Here, maybe if you're in a library they can put a hold on this for you:
Trevor Pinnock - Concerto for Two Cembali and Strings ( Bach ) BWV 1044 and on. It's on the Archiv label. ( Mulitple CD )
Maybe you might like it, maybe you might not. There's a saying; One man's meat is another man's poison. Hope this helps.

Nowadays, country is starting to be liked by older generations. If you look at the Billboard Top 100 or something like that, you will see that Country is very rare on that list. It is becoming less and less popular. I also love I Write Sins Not Tragedies. It is one of my favorite songs. If you're going towards Rock, I would recommend Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Brandi Carlile is also really good. She's not very popular, but she is one of my favorites.

I'm from Alberta, Canada, and country music is HUGE here! I do like so country in small doses, but I can't listen to it all the time (after a while it starts to annoy me - but that's like any kind of music.. I like variety!)

the problem is that country music has an implied idea of racism and
intolerance behind it. I know thats completely wrong, as country artists ARE NOT racists. However, thats how people think on the coasts. sorry!

I like older country like Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff and some others.
You shouldn't care what other people like or even be concerned about why other pople don't like it. If I don't like what you like it doesn't matter. Music is personal and so is art. So if it makes you happy you should just like it and not worry about what other people think, after all they're your ears!

My husband listens to country when I'm not around, because I hate it, and tend to want to chuck things at the radio.

I listen to country, pop, r&b and rap.
Its all similar but you have to keep an open mind. You can't tell folk you don't like their music and expect them to like yours.
