You grew up :)
no seriously - all music "used to be good" then we grow out of it and the next generation takes it up and we(you) think it sucks.
It allows each generation to differentiate itself from the previous.

I predict that one day teenagers will just listen to one long tone...like 440Hz -- Oooh that's my favorite.

Rap happened to rap. It was a case of too much of a good thing. The old school rap was where it was at, then all of a sudden it changed from good music about neighborhoods and friends to killing and calling women names and trying to out "dis" each other. Since all of the killing started the music has changed to try to intimidate each other so basically you try to scare everybody away from shooting you, by showing how tough you are. Sad.

What happened to rap was the content got worse. When rap first came out it was made for anybody, but rappers were getting the biggest response from thugs. Therefore they changed it to guns, sex, and cursing. Which is what they thought was what the thugs wanted to hear. Of course they forgot that they have kids, teens, and christians wanting to listen to music that keeps them awake. They changed their content but they forgot all about us kids and how their words affect us.

I wonder when rappers will realize that the crap they preach destroys their own community. I can think of only two black men that have been role models, ML King and Rev. Jesse Jackson. The black community needs encouragement from other blacks.
