how old is the baby? at 4-6 months a baby who can sit upright with minimum support (like in a high chair or on the sofa) can eat infant cereal. Try Gerber... it actually tastes pretty good. But it's better to start with rice cereal or barley. They are simpler grains which are easier to digest. If your baby is eating stage 2 or stage 3 foods with texture and chuncks then he or she can probably have instant oatmeal.

YES. Don't waste you money on the baby cereal. They are marketing to make you feel like you have to feed it to you child.
I use to feed my kids "regular" food and grind it up. At the time there were some very good baby food grinders. I would even take it to restaurants.
"Quick Oats" are perfect for babies that are on cereal. Do not use the "instant" oatmeal with sugars and fruits. Add your own fruits or sugarless (not Nutra Sweet) jams.
You can thin it out with more formula, breast milk or diluted juice.

if your baby is doing fine with 2nd, and esp. 3rd stage foods, then yes, you can feed the li'l angel most anything with similar consistentcy. i have 4 children, and they have all eaten baby food/cereal by 4mos old, yogurt and oatmeal, mashed sweet potatoes, whatever, is fine. some doctors will dissagree, so it's basically your descretion, honestly. if you feel like maybe you know what's best, do it. trust your doc, tho, but sometimes a mom knows best. it's really nonsense about only milk until at least 6 mos. mine would not have surrived with breastmilk/formula only. it just didnt quite cut it. and, "solid" foods help tremendously with any possible bowel probs your li'l sweety may have, also. just make sure you go slow with introducing new foods, just like baby food. - give each new food at least 4-7 days before trying out another, to monitor any possible allergies.

It depends on how old the baby is. If he/she is under 4 months old then I wouldn't suggest it. Giving a baby "table" food too early can lead to food allergies, and eczema. My oldest wouldn't eat any baby foods, and now he has food allergies, and eczema. Its rough. Talk to your baby's pediatrician, before you do. There are infant cereals by Gerber and such... they advise you to start with them, rice cereal first, the rice cereal with bananas, and or apples, the on to infant oatmeal. Then onto jarred baby foods stages 1-3
Good Luck

It's okay for your baby to eat that kind of food. It's better than other baby food because it has fiber, It makes your baby's digestion clean and healthy! Try QUAKER OATS!

It depends on how old your baby is. I would suggest contacting your baby's pediatrician. They'll be able to give you an educated answer, and you know you'd be able to trust it because they're a doctor! :D
