I'm gonna be riding my bike this winter and I need a few tips to keep warm and avoid sicknesses through the cold winter air. Mainly in what clothes/shoes/gloves to wear. I've been riding just with a nice jacket but my throat has been getting pretty messed up.

Thanks for all ur help

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velomobile

A velomobile or bicycle car is a human-powered vehicle, fully enclosed for protection from weather . They are almost always single-passenger derived from tricycles, with a full fairing & many are homebuilt

They are expensive BUT if money was not an issue or far less of an issue would you consider using a velomobile as transportation?

Why or why not?

What preconcieved notions do you have about them?

Would they be socially acceptable were you live?

I would like to convert my road bike from SPD pedals and MTB shoes to true road pedals and road shoes for 30-60 mile rides. I would like a system that is easy to get in and out of - that is my first priority since I sometimes ride on city streets. I have never ridden anything but SPD's or platform pedals so I want to know the pros and cons of Look, Time, Speedplay, etc.

For example, when you're climbing up a hill on your bike, 20% is a ridiculously steep, almost impossible hill. But, what does 20% resultsin as far as angles are concerned?

Does a 50% grade a 45 degree angle? And what are some of the steepest possible pitches that you might climb on a road bike?

I need some great all season MTB tyres - they must do roots, rocks, trail and mud to a high standard. I'm around 165 pounds.
Every tyre review (Schwalbe, Panaracer, WTB, Kenda etc) all seem to believe their tyre is best - what's your view?

Are people just lazy and not willing to look for the motorcycle category ? (Which is located in Cars & Transportation for those of you that are wondering.)

Or

Are they just too ignorant to believe that people enjoy riding a bicycle for the joy of it?

I only want to change the power source, not the setup! I don't want to buy those clip-on bike lights. I like the old style look of my bike and want to keep it that way! Any ideas?

Which mountain bike magazine do you think is the coolest? My brother is WAY into mountain biking and I'd like to get him a subscription, but don't know which are cool and which are lame. He's an Australian living in Japan if that helps narrow the field. Any advice?
