I have heard that Catholics are not supposed to read the bible themselves, such as having a personal Bible at home. To my understanding, only a priest or trained theologan can interpret it and then explain the teachings to lay people. Do Catholic people not have Bibles in their homes. Many religious people talk about reading the Bible every day, would a Catholic not read it at home but rather go to a Church service to hear the Priests interpretations? Also, I have heard that until the 1950s Catholic services were only read in Latin........so how did the church goers understand??? Do they mean the priest only read the scripture in Latin and then when he explained he explained in English?

If I was Jesus I would have said that there will be hot poker's rammed into crotches, high-voltage nipple clamps and country music played at high decibels.

I mean really, God and Jesus really aren't that creative.

There is only one observable type of evolution and that is micro... variations within the kind. The rest of it they hope happened. But it's never been observed... It can't be tested or recreated. I'd say you have more of a faith in that, which technically makes it a religion. So lets see christians believe we came from god. atheists believe we came from a rock that was rained on for millions of years. In all these questions here i typically see atheist mentioning there intelligence. Well i ask where's the intelligence in that.

From the parable of the Wedding Banquet in Matt 22:

"But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless.

"Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'"

The 'King' here is a major league dick! Screw the King and his crap-tacular banquet. What a stuck-up prig, huh?

Tuberoot wrote

"First of all, if you don't want to know God, then He doesn't want you. He is the one who puts the desire to come to Him in us. Since He does not want everyone, there are people who are not even interested."

Holy crap- I can't believe he would write that.
What every happened to the all loving, all forgiving God????

what do you think the church stood to gain by imprisoning galileo? i've heard some defenders of christianity say galileo's theories do not disprove anything in the bible. but what about passages such as psalms 93:1, psalms 96:10, and 1 chronicles 16:30 which state "the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved." or psalms 104:5 which says, "[the lord] set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved." it would seem to me that anything which contradicted this might be a threat to the bible. don't you think? any similarities between galileo's theories and darwin's as far as being a threat to the bible?

I've been wondering about this.

I know of someone who does not believe in the trinity, but believes that Jesus is their savior. He repents to Jesus, believes that Jesus was born of a virgin birth, and believes that Jesus is the only begotten son of God. But.. He does not think that Jesus is the almighty God, he believes that the Father is God.

It seems like there must be something made up about your religion when everthing presented to support your beliefs are either half-truths or outright fabrications. I have seen you guys answer questions on this site with lies. The bible you follow is a farce, a silly story that is copied from pagan religions that existed long before your christ was born. Your bible was also altered throughout time to reflect the beliefs of the current regime. You present sources as fact that are just stupid, mindless dumbassery, and really think of it as truth. Please, save me. I want nothing more than to know there is good and justice in this evil world. I wish that in the end the good will be rewarded and the evil punished. But you really can't see the joke of your religion? Talking snakes? For real, if there is a god, your goofy *** **** is not it. Prayse Jaysus.

Hello, I'm doing a debate topic for school, the topic is: "Science must come before religion", and the counter team's topic is "Religion must come before science"

My question is that, how would i support this topic (of science must come before religion?)

examples and links would be very much appreciated.

also, how would i use examples from the book "Brave new world" to defend this topic?

thanks

In the Bible, God made an everlasting covenant with the Jewish people to give them the land of Israel forever. In 2005, Bush decided to support the pulling out of Jewish people out of the Gaza strip to give to the Palastinians in exchange for peace. Bush seperated all those Jewish people from land that GOD gave them. He divided up holy land. One week later to the date, hurricane katrina struck our nation. The hurricane resulted in all these Americans forced to leave THEIR homes and go elsewhere. Coincidence? Is there a link between what happened in Gaza and Hurricane Katrina? Was this the righteous judgement of God?
