Many Americans come to Japan to "teach" English. I notice that many people are talking here how easy it is to teach English in Japan and make money just by speaking your native language. Do You Really Think You Are Qualified To "Teach" English?
I am not talking about those licensed teachers hired by the government of Japan, official organizations and public high schools.

When you are asked something and you don't understand which of the following is more common, apart from "Pardon?":
I didn't understand. (simple past)
I haven't understood. (present perfect)
I don't understand. (simple present)

Yesterday i posted a subject here, seeking for some advice to improve my English. By doing this i've collected lots of excellent ideas by now, and i really appreciated that. When i woked up this morning, i thought it would be the right time to apply those ideas to practice now.

I'm seeking for someone who is a native English speaker, has sore of experience of learning it and wants to improve his/her oral Chinese to a new level. Even though i live in the other side of the earth, we could do it via the online-communication software, such as MSN, Skype, etc(Do i look like making the advertisement? :) ).

Deep down, the biggest spur to my English learning is the desire to experience and to explore another tolally different culture. China, as an attractive country with its history could be traced back to 5000 years ago, is raising now.

You wanna experience that? Don't hesitate to response to the invitation. :)

What do you think of spanish language, do you like it or not? I'm from Uruguay, Southamerica, and I like languages very much, specially english and italian. I studied english since I was a child. I know this sounds a little nuts, but I live in an 1800's German settlement in Australia. It was once home to several families but now it's only me that lives here. My dogs and I often take late night walks to look at the local mob of kangaroos etc... Here lately when I walk past one of the older buildlings I can very distinctly hear an old lady saying something to me in German. She sounds angry. But she speaks quickly so I can't really make out what she is saying. Ok...I know a lot of folks don't believe in such things, but it's just part of daily life here. What I want to be able to say back to this lady is something like "I'm sorry, but I don't speak German" in the most respectful way possible.

What I mean to ask is why is it LA voiture in French opposed to LE voiture? Why do some Languages feel the need to have gender and some don't. How did the original speaker arrive at whether it is male/female. With some words Father/Mother, Brother/Sister, Husband/Wife of course it is self explanatory, but what about those words that are not so obvious?

What is the correct term for when lets say, two cultures meet up but cannot communicate with one another. So they had to adapt each other language into something both could understand.

Its not ape language or pig latin. . . but I know i heard this somewhere... but I can't remember for sure
