Christmas - December 2006

As a german, I heard/read that in the US many people don´t say "Happy Christmas", but "Happy Holiday". Why is that so? Please don´t tell me that it is because of "not offending" the non-christian people. Even MACYS and the president (!?) don´t write "Christmas" anymore. Is that true? That would be such a shame...

I am really struggling with this one. I just found out, yesterday, that the relative who is insisting on hosting our traditional Christmas Eve has ordered everyone to bring their own meats for a barbecue! I'm already done shopping. I expected the hosting to be gracious and hospitable, like I and other are when we host. My husband and I feel really weird about this; there will undoubtedly be a variety of each-his-own fare, which striked me as potentially-uncomfortable. We feel like the menu is a message that it's all an inconvenience (and there's a history of the hostess being a self-centered beotch). We're thinking of declining to send the message with our actions, but it would hurt some feelings. Is this just me overly-projecting my opinions and wishes, or would you feel the same way? Any ideas on how to handle it?

I mean that we lie to our children that santa is coming , when they are LITTLE then when they get OLDER they learn the truth......and then they THINK THAT WE LIED TO THEM.!!!!!!!!!!!

I KNOW IT IS GREAT FOR A CHILD TO IMAGINE, BUT THIS MAY BE GOING TO FAR..........

Every Christmas eve we have gift giving games for the adults. This year I want to give the kids their turn to have some fun too. Something simple. There are five children ages 3-12. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

It has become so taboo to do so that it almost seems like saying "Merry Christmas" is the same as saying "F*** OFF!" or something.

I have tried everything but its like christmas shouldnt belong a couple days away? I have baked cookies ,shopped and wraped presents, decorated, played christmas music, watched christmas movies, and decked out in christmas clothes but nothing seems to work? What gets you into the spirit? Does christmas feelout of place to you are you lacking the Christmas spirit?

A few years back they pretty much said that they are done accepting christmas gifts becasue they have everything so to put whatever money was going to be spent on them to a charity. I am going to their house and i would like to give them something, so far i have a calender of their dogs which is kind of tacky. ANy suggestions?
