Etiquette - December 2007

I'm 25 and a grad student , commuting from home to college, I have nothing to do with my Moms friends and have not seen her family in 5 years, i asked her not to put my name on her x-mas card, she told me as long as i live in her house she must put my name down along with my sister because it wouldnt look right otherwise..
Is she right? I dont want my name on them. makes me feel like a baby.

I did, I wore glasses and until a few years ago when I had my lazic surgery..I cried when I could see again because my eyes were so bad I couldn't get off the bed.. Anyhow

today I ran into a girl that tormented me throughout my childhood and she used to call me "four eyes" and all those putdowns that come from wearing glasses and being short..I said,"hi, how've you been?" and it was very civil I was actually happy to see her even though she's the one wearing very thick glasses now and no I don't feel like laughing because I've been there but I just thought how wierd life is and how things turn out in the end.

are you very straightforward and brutally honest about it? An "I don't care what anyone else thinks" type of attitude?

Or are you more gentle and mild about it...choosing your words carefully to make sure you don't offend anyone?

Give me details or tell a short story. I have a great one, it involves chewing his *** off in front of all of his emplyees. He missed payroll twice and talked some crap behind most of our backs. His business has since closed due to his laziness.

I made the mistake of inviting my sister on my work's local work retreat. Spent a Saturday evening on the mountain, and co-worker (semi-bigwig) ended up hitting on her. Now my sister says she's gonna date him (she says this in anger and knowing that he has money & a GF). I'm at a loss. My sister is vindictive. I've worked diligently for this company for 3 1/2 years and I'm a sole provider to my daughter and I. My sis is $ hungry, looking for a free ride. He's (my co-worker-big-wig) is a 2-timer looking for a lay.
I'm just trying to keep the peace, without being extorted by my sister. What do I do? Tell HR? Tell the two-timing suitor that I am not associated?? I honestly dont know.
Please help. I need to know my rights. If you have any questions I'd be happy to specify.
BTW-There is not a chance this relationship could work. This is highly revolved around $, and not love of any sort.
Again, plz advise.

You and 2 others have been watching a movie it is about 1 hour and 20 minutes into a 1 hour 45 minute movie. Your roommate shows up she has met one of your guest several times and has never met the other. Is it more rude to stop the movie to introduce the two or to just say hello to your roommate? The roommate does not join you in watching the movie simply walks in and heads to there room.

Well, today during class my cell phone went off, but it was completely an accident. I ALWAYS keep it turned off, but this morning I had to call my mom because my bus didn't come to get me and I needed a ride, and I must have forgotten to turn it off. It was really bad luck too- no one ever calls me during school, and it turned out that it was just a wrong number that called. Luckily, my teacher didn't take it up or anything, she just said whoever's phone that is, you'd better not take it out, so I didn't. I feel really bad about disrupting class. I was going to say something to my teacher after class, but she was busy helping another student. Should I apologize tomorrow? I know this probably seems like a silly question, because this probably wouldn't be a big deal to most people, but I am a very self-conscious person and I hate getting in trouble at all.

in my work place, there is gay guy who joined a work group of 4 females and since then I can hear them talking nasty girl talk with him. on the first day he came in they were actually talking about not wearing underwear under their uniforms to seduce men !!!!! and today (which is only my third occasion there, they were talking about menses and one girl were saying that she needs a pad, and they all kept joking about and they were saying some stuff like " last month I was just pouring, blah blah".Totaly disregarding he is in fact a man regardless of sexual orientation.

offcourse they don't say such things when they know I am or any other straight man around. but for some reason it is ok to discuss these things with him because he is Gay.

Also is it appropriate for him to join this conversation???
We also have a lesbian coworker but we guys don't discuss such nasty guy's business in front of her, she is still a woman regardless that she is very musculine.

....I have a clean, short, neatly trimmed beard. People say it looks better on me than if I didn't have it all.

Having said this, I have an interview tomorrow...for an analyst position. People do wear beards in the business...but it's not all that common (more folks wear goatees than beards). What do you think? Should I go with it for tomorrow's interview, or not?

I wear my pants so that the belt is laying atop my hip bone and that seems where it is very comfortable however I have a friend who makes fun of me saying I am wearing my pants where an old man would wear his. Who is right? BTW, I am not a sagger. I like to look respectable.

Im so sick of people who don't know the answer they just think they do!! It makes me so mad I want to cuss them out to their faces! For example My sisters obgyn told me she is having PRACTICE contractions. I said oh you mean braxton Hicks and She replied NO they are NOT braxton hicks. yet this woman today claims to be a RN and says there is no such thing as practice and they are just braxton hicks..........well I think I trust the hospital obgyn over someone trying to claim to be a nurse.
