Etiquette - November 2006

I just moved into campus apartments and they have left food on stove, or pans in sink un washed, or not cleaned up forman grill... I've cleaned dishes and grill, but am getting tired of this - what should I do?

when a person does not FULLY listen to me & tries to
talk when I'm not done talking yet
when a person shows up real late (20-30 mins) & there was NO reson for it ( I can see if an emergency happens or your stuck in traffic)
when a person judges me before they truely get to know me

When she and her boyfriend have sex, she cries out so loudly that it sounds like he's beating her up or something. (I know because I actually went to check if she was being hurt.)
It's not even moaning... it's like being loud for the sake of being loud, i.e. faking it. It is very annoying. If it was at least truly sexual, it could be stimulating, but this is just a turnoff. How do I tell someone to stop sounding like they're faking it because the whole building could hear it?

I am not but it really pisses me of when people do. Also people pick on the disabled. Why is that ok? I have an autistic child and I get really upset when people call disabled people retards etc. What if it happened to them or their children or loved ones. I don't understand how people can be so cruel.

I work with a guy that stinks....He never washes and he always wears the same clothes.....Thank god it's just a seasonal job but it lasts for 6 months...

To qualify I used to be a waitress, and I typically was tipped very well. Some of my friends are embarrassingly bad tippers. I hate eating with some of them.

I'm not talking about people who tip poorly out of meanness. Or people who get bad service and tip the server accordingly.

I mean people who just don't know any better. Growing up my parents always made a big deal about tipping 20% for good service, more for really good service. 10% is an insult to a server who makes 2 bucks an hour.

Do people just not realize what the proper amount is? Or are they just worried that the extra money will break them? If that is the case why don't they eat in or at a non tipping resturant?
Do they hate tipping and think that a server is paid more than $2.13 an hour? I have heard comments that 'a tip is a gift', to which I counter; if people don't tip well the resturant may just raise the prices to salary the waitstaff. It is not unheard of. Or when you return, they may 'know' about you.

they boxed me in on the highway, they didn't run me off the road or anything just kept me contained. We traveled at a total of 40 mph. I had not been drinking i was designated driver. There was a opening and I sped through the opening of all their cars. All wide open high way and i got away from them. Why were these guys that i do know acting this way?

I never said I do not want them to visit at all, but I do insist people ALWAYS call first before coming to the house, including my family..They had a very annoying habit of showing up whenever they wanted when my BF first moved in. When I say anytime, I mean weekend mornings at 8am, and nights when I have to work the next day at 10:30pm, staying until after midnight. Once they showed up on a Sunday, woke me up with their banging and ringing the bell, (my BF is a heavy sleeper) and I told them, in my nightgown the first thing that Sunday morning, that "You MUST call first, I am sorry I cannot let you in right now it is too early, you have been asked to call first before, yet you keep disrespecting us and our home by showing up anyway, please call later and we will tell you if it is a good time to visit or not." Then I shut the door and locked it. They pounded and rang again, even pushed on the door.I opened it again, repeated my speech asked them to leave and shut the door again.

My girlfriend lives in LA. I live 100 miles away. Today is her birthday. She is going out for a birthday dinner with her friends that live in LA. I want to be with her on her birthday, but she says today is just for her friends and family and that I should not invite myself. One of the friends she is going out with tonight (who has a girlfriend) is male, so it is not just girls going out. She said she would come see me for the weekend and we would celebrate her birthday then. I feel strange that she does not want me around on her birthday today. Also, she never wants me to go out with her in LA. When she wants to see me, she comes to my town. Is it strange that she does not want me to be with her on her birthday, and that she considers it a time for her friends and family only? I have been dating her 3 years.

I used "curmudgeon", but that means a grouchy, mean, jerk. Does not apply at all. Pessimist doesn't apply either. Just someone who will say "That won't work" (authoritatively), without thinking outside the box for a new solution, happy to simply point it out to you.

I'll give an example of my dilemma - I was at a job agency and asking to the receptionist to talk to a certain person who I could see was sitting at the end of the office. The woman had a really bad attitude and looked/spoke to me as if I was a piece of dirt and then capped it off by telling me the person wasn't in the office. I was tempted at this point to give her slap....Is there a point in a conversation when it would be polite slap someone to try and bring a sense of reality to the given situation?
