I live in a basement suite and the landlord does not live upstiars. Instead there are 3 people who all smoke. THe landlord has told them twice to not smoke inside, but they insist on smoking inside. They think that smoking in the bathroom we can not smell it. It is just not about smell. SMoke causes my asthma to get worse and i have had to have medication to deal with this issue. Moving out is not an option. Any suggestions? Should i keep a list of everytime i smell smoke and tell my landlord again? They also smoke marijauna, should i call the police when i smell it? I need help. it is hard to deal with punks like these. Thanks for any tips.

My boyfriend invited me to go to his big church for Christmas celebration. All the people there I don't really even know, except for my boyfriend and they are having a "Secret Santa" thing. The people there at the church asked me to play Secret Santa with them. I have only met those people there at the church once and they are asking me to participate in Secret Santa with them. However, my boyfriend is telling me that I should not participate. Why do you think that is so? I asked him "why" and he said that he think it's weird since I don't know these people very well and they don't know me very well either. He wants me to get to know them more before I participate in Secret Santa with the people at his church. I told him that that would be no fun then if I went to the church and everyone is doing Secret Santa and I'm the only one not participating in it. Then he got mad at me. What do you think is the reason he's mad at me and why I shouldn't be participating?

I can understand people getting upset about people flaming, posting rude remarks, etc. But some rules of "netiquette" seem a little silly to me. For instance, why is it such a big deal if someone TYPES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS? I know, someone in the early days of chatrooms decided that was yelling, and now everyone's uptight about it. But maybe that's just the way the person likes to type. I mean, I have known some people that handwrite everything in capital letters--and it was just the way they wrote, no hidden meaning, threat, or rage hidden underneath.

Also, people tend to get antsy when someone rites n chatspeak. u no, cuz dats jus kool, u no. Yeah, it looks silly, but is it really worth getting upset over? I guess you could argue that it shows a lack of language skills. It might, but still, you're making an assumption. One again, maybe that's just how the person likes to write when chatting online. It doesn't mean they don't know the rules of grammar, spelling, etc.

How do you ask someone to pay you back if this person is trying to avoid contact with you and ignores your calls. I was thinking in showing on at his house and wait until he comes to ask for the money back...any ideas? What should I say?

I accidentally cut my thumb with a butter knife when I was cutting a piece of butter yesterday evening, but I don't know if one should want to really admit it if anyone should ask. However, I do know that because of the rarity of drawing blood from a butter knife while cutting something such as butter may be nearly as impressive as getting in a brawl at the pub and getting a thumb cut on a broken beer bottle or such.

So, when someone asks how I got this huge cut on my thumb, which is it more impressive to mention: "butter knife while cutting butter" or "broken beer bottle from a wild pub brawl?"

I am a person of color and I feel that many waitstaff persons don't give minorities their best service cause they feel that may not get a good tip from us. I have often felt ignored or at best given the bare minimun of service in restaurants. Often we have to wait a long time for someone to take our order.Once at a Craker Barrell we could hear and see the waiters discussing who "had " to take our table. My mom and I are always well dressed and polite customers and I make a point of over tipping a little so hopefully they will change there view of black customers.
If your a waiter/waitress is my observation correct???
Other people of color please tell me do you experince the same treatment.

A friend of mine from work, his car recently died. Both of us live out of town and nowhere near eachother. I have a car and recently he has been asking me for a ride home.
I live about 43 minutes from where I work and driving him home adds an additional 10 - 15 minutes.
After working 8.5 hours all I was to do is get home.
He's a good friend and he gives me money for the ride, but how do I say, keep your money, and go ask someone else - politely?

Thanks!

Sooo Im a part-time waitress in New York and yeah I know people pay more in rent here and the foods a little more expensive, but does that mean the person who is serving you should have to do everything to make sure you are comfortabe on your time out and make less than a 10% tip for it..So I figure it cant be that some people just wanna be mean and not tip us, but just don't know how. Im just curious what kind of tips you guys leave to your waiter or waitress who you felt did a good job??

Not to mention sometimes the talker is driving at the same time.
What would you do in my case?

I am sending out invitations for a party and bought shipping labels, instead of regular labels and return address labels to cut costs. Before i print them out, i wanted to be sure that this is acceptable. It sounds like a dumb question probably, but, just thought i'd try to get an answer from someone out there. Thanx. Vickie
