Sometimes heavy-set and/or pregnant guests come to the restaurant where I work and request a booth. I have been a hostess there for a year and can determine whether or not they will fit in our booths. How can I go about expressing this in a non-offensive manner? I feel it is a humiliating experience and waste of time to attempt to seat them- especially during high volume and peak hours.

A friend of mine (she's a girl!) is crushing on a guy friend of mine. She's only just met him yesterday. When they are talking, should I go up to them and join them casually and normally? Would that be considered rude? She knows that I and her crush both know about the crush. He knows about the crush but does not like her as he only just met her. He also knows I know. We are all informed in all ways about all aspects of the crush! So would it be rude to go over to them? (P.S. I'm only a friend, this is high school.)

I cashed my check last night from my part-time job. It was $126.93, I asked the teller though if I could give him $0.07 to make it an even amount, he said ok. He started counting my money to me at the same time I got a phone call, so I wasn't paying too much attention, but when I got in my car I realized he gave me $200... AND I LEFT... I feel awful, but I couldn't resist leaving even though I realized the error. Am I completely unethical? What would you have done?

Which do you prefer?

I've read that Asian culture dictates that, while serving tea, you serve according to age- the elderly first (and their spouses), and so on with the youngest last. European culture seems to prefer to serve women first, then men. With guests coming first. I can't decide which method I like better...

I'm 20 and my boyfriend, Craig, is 25. His bestfriend John and his girlfriend are coming up the night before Thanksgiving. I'm very shy and was dreading going out because I'm not legal to drink, and his friend and girl are the party type. Point is, while my boyfriend suggested we go to a restaurant, Craig insisted to go to a bar, and I was uninvited. Literally. My boyfriend informed me, and was very polite about it and did it the right way (explained that Craig insisted on going to a bar).

I'm not mad at all or even offended (I don't get mad easy). I'm not upset at all with my boyfriend, but I think it was a little rude of Craig to insist on going to a bar when he knows my age. Either way, I would NEVER cross the line and say something to him about how I feel, but does anyone agree with me that it was a little rude / inconsiderate of Craig? Also, do you think my boyfriend should've put his foot down more?

Either way, I'm definitely relieved to not be going due to how shy I am!

actually leave a tip in the jar at the drive thru window at Starbucks?

Personally I kinda think $4.15 for a mocha is enough. Just wondering if I am being stingy. Thanks.

Small boy "No I am not"
Lady "Sorry. you look so much like one I was sure you were a Baxter"
Small boy in a loud voice "We used to live next door to the Baxter's"

If you were to carpool with another person (s) would you be on your cell phone talking and letting the other driver get an ear full
of nonsence stuff and lame conversations?
My carpool partner is always on the phone and I can't listen to NPR or music, because "he's on the phone!" and I got tired of listening his "lame conversations" and told this person he was being rude and lack of etiquette on his part. Don't you think I was right to bring this to his attention?.

I hate to do it, but he is really doing a terrible job. I have a rural mail carrier, and at least twice a week my neighbor brings me some of my mail that was put in her mailbox. Just as often, we get mail that belongs to someone else. To top it all off, we've had several things go missing. At first I just thought it was because he was new, but it's been going on for months now. I'm getting tired of it. What's the best way to handle this?

You know the idiom: Move out of California before it makes you too soft; move out of New York before it makes you too hard?

Unfortunately I've only lived in Colorado and California. I plan on moving to NYC post-grad though. Are New Yorkers confrontational even if you mind your own business or is the stereotype over-exaggerated?

My friends know what to expect, but when someone comes to the door, I have to tell them to wait in their car. This is a real burden. We are not able to enjoy modesty in such cases. What are our options?
