Recently, a peer of mine suffered the tragic loss of her older brother. I knew him personally, although we were not close. I hung out with him casually maybe once or twice awhile back, but I still feel it would be appropriate to pay my respects in some way. Both the wake and the funeral are open to the public, and I am sure that I know others who will be at the funeral, but am unsure if they will be at the wake. Being that I do not know the family, and was not close to the deceased, which is more appropriate to attend?

I feel helpless in the boy department. My friends all have dates, and I seem like I can't get anyone! My best friend tells me to stop thinking like this. SHe is trying to set me up with someone but I don't believe it will work because he will look at me and leave! I am not pretty, hot, or cute! what is wrong with me?!

Please help, I'm normally pretty imaginative and creative, but this one has me stumped.

I have a AUS $15 budget and my present is for a male, early 30's, extremely expensive tastes, not really into novelty things, no discernable interests or hobbies, not sure of musical, reading or cinematic tastes....

I don't want to do a gift voucher or a bottle of wine, so if any of you guys can come up with some ideas I would be ever so grateful!

Cheers

A co-worker's mother passed away this weekend. We'd like to send flowers, but do not know where to begin to find information. All we know is her last name, and that she lived in Queens, NY.

here's the facts:

- EVERYONE except me gets the items delivered to them within a week of their arrival

- EVERYTIME I wait 1-3 months to get my stuff. I have to go get it; not delivered.

- Usually I don't even know it's arrived until someone else mentions it.

- I've mentioned to my friends how it iritates me and they say "oh, whatever."

- Last time I ordered girl scout cookies my friend left them in her car and they all melted - ruined ... I still paid full price and had to throw them away.

- Tonight I ask them to bring me my stuff and they told me to come get it if I wanted it; otherwise I could get it on Thanksgiving. 5 -6 weeks AFTER everyone else already received theirs.

I always ask for permission to smoke even if I see ashtrays somewhere. But non-smokers will say the meanest things (about how disgusting cigarettes are, how weak and pathetic smokers are etc) despite the fact I'm always polite. Why do you think this is happening? Or it's just a phenomenon found in my community?

I understand that styles change. This old guy is just wondering wear it originated and why it is socially excepted now. I see people doing it at fast food resturants even. Someone once told me it's because they are imitating inmates because officers take their belts and shoe laces.

It's been awhile since I've worked in the food industry but one thing that really bothered me was peoples manners or lack there-of.

Many people recently have been questioning the quality of service and the situation of tipping. Has any one ever thought that the poor service they may have recieved could be the direct reflection of how they approached the server him/herself?

Many times in my years of food service I had smiled at the people approaching the counter, said hello and asked how I could help them. They inturn wouldn't look at me, wouldn't say hello but demanded I give them what they want. They would throw their money at me, sometimes it slipping off the other side of the counter, no apologies. They then grab their food and take off, no thank yous.

Is this kind of behaviour deserving of good service?

I did my job, got them what they wanted but I honestly didn't go above and beyond like I would have for someone who treated me like a human being.
