We have friends with very limited funds, and would like them to attend our child's birthday party without having to purchase a gift. We have been invited to parties where the invitation said "Please no gifts" but many people brought gifts in spite of that. We don't want to exclude people who want to bring gifts, and we want everyone to come, even if they cannot afford a gift.

Any suggestion for wording the invitation?

Ok i'm in a community college, i'm 19, so i'm an adult.

It's a group communications class, so we got into groups and we had to discuss something within 10 min. We finished in about 5. When we were done i opened up my cell phone (WHICH WAS ON VIBRATE) because I got a txt message. She saw me just open it for 5 seconds and i just needed to read it and she comes over and starts trying to tell me I need to have my cell phone turned off for class and that it's in the syllabys. I look it up and it says "to not distract others around you, please turn off all beepers and pagers." And what I was doing was distracting no one.

Also I was reading my notes in class while we were having a discussion because i needed to look up a word, she yells at me for not paying attention when I really was.

Also she says she penalizes your grade for being late, but doesn't say it on the syllabys. Isn't this contract infringment?

Is there anything I can do to go above her? She just snipes me, am I wrong here?

What are the rules for etiquette when you are walking behind someone at slow pace and they are holding the door open for you? Do you speed up so that they do not have to hold the door open any longer, or do you simply tell them that they do not have to hold the door? I always feel awkward in this social setting.

Last night I was in the store where my husband's ex wife works. She said sometime to me about how her friend is always send her crazy pictures on her phone and then proceeds to show me one of these picture. It was a woman helping a man sexually relieve himself. It totally freaked me out becasue I find porn gross and am a very conservative. I just think it was wierd! Would this offend you?

I started participating in yahoo answers because I thought it was a place where you could, on a small level, possibly make a difference in someones life by sharing your opinons or personal experiences, and also to learn from others experiences. I am very disappointed that it is really just a forum for someone who just wants to have some fun and not really give any real useful input...
like the one word answers or the sarcastic and or derrogatory comments. If anyone feels the same, could you please let me know?I realize that having fun is part of it also, but aren't we suppose to find informative answers to some of our questions? Like the ones perhaps that we feel uncomfortable asking someone we know?
Not speaking for myself because this is the first question I am asking.... but for those whose questions I have answered. Thank you in advance for sharing..

How do we as a society decide what is disgusting and wrong? What makes us decide if something with a history of being socially unacceptable should suddenly be alright?

If you were gay 50 years ago (for example), you'd be evil, disgusting, and a filthy Communist. What changes society's mind the way it does?

Mine is Walgreens. Customers are rude, and so are the employees, and just bad vibes in the store.

I think the energy from the employees who don't get paid well let it rise in the environment of the store.

When my boyfriend and Irented our current apartment. We meet our landlords in the last day to sign the lease. We are in our twenty's and they are in their late thirty's. After a month of moving in we had an argument that lasted like 5 minutes. Basically talking trash back an forth. They called the cops and made a huge deal about it. Came down to lecture us and we apologized for it being loud. we only see them face to face when we pay our rent. We feel so uncomfortable, we say inside as much as possible, avoid noise, music and loud tv, we don't even like inviting people over because he once asked who one of our visitors was. we have a few more months left to the lease. should i worry about this?

Lately everytime I vist my bank I am disgusted. Today all 5 tellers were chewing gum, passing it back and forth in their mouth and I could see the pieces of gum. They also dress badly and when they bend over I can see their underwear. They wear shirts that are too short and show off the skin on their mid riff. It seems like a professional job is being taken so lightly, is my personal bank info taken lightly too? If this had been Walmart I would have not cared. Do you think I am being over picky about this? I am seriously considering changing banks.

My husband and I just moved in a new apartment and the place is great. After a few days, we realized that the upstairs neighbors are really noisy and we told the landlord about it. They seem to be making an effort but there's still some noise. I have trouble falling asleep even with my earplugs on? Any advice?

Should we simply answer the question and smile at them?
Should we challenge them openly and ask them to clarify their question and tell why they are asking?
Should we outright be cruel and tell them how stupid they are?

I went out to dinner with two friends of mine and my boyfriend. We were there having a conversation, and whenever he speaks, everyone in the restaurant looks at our table. HE TALKS SO LOUD!!! Even when we're alone or somewhere just the two of us, his voice is louder than everyone elses. He does know how to talk quiet, whisper even.... I know he probably can't help it....

I dont know what to do. It's really embarassing.
