and tomorrow is his mom's birthday. I've been invited to go out to dinner with the family for her birthday, so I thought it would be appropriate to give her a small present, so I bought a nice candle and a little holder to go with it. But I heard him mention that he needs to go buy his mom a card. Not a present, just a card. Should I feel uncomfortable giving her a gift when her own son didn't get her anything more than a card?

As a fifteen-year old junior in high school, I have become sick and tired of hearing people use the words "gay" and "retarded". An example of this scenario would be:"That assignment was so gay." or "That assignment was so retarded." Using those words are an insult to both the gay community and the mentally challenged. People do not choose to be gay, and they definitely don't choose to be mentally challenged. Using those words are more than hurtful; they are a blatant sign of pure disrespect. I ask all of those who do catch themselves using the words to please choose an alternate word that is not as offensive as "gay" or "retarded".

Thanks.

I used to be in a hobby of making jewelry and was big into making bola ties, the western style kind consisting of a piece of jewelry with a leather cord worn as a kind of tie. But over the years, I found that it seemed more of a waste of time making what I thought was a form of lovely jewelry. It seems that all the silver and turquoise or gold and other stones don't produce a product that has much popularity and society seems to put more value in an ordinary cloth tie make in a sweatshop in China than a handmade work of art.
I have heard the same arguement that the bola ties do not agree with dress codes of many businesses and that wearing them would be just one more way that people can get themselves into trouble, as in the case of a Maryland high school student who was barred from participating in his graduation ceremony because he wore a bola tie instead of a regular tie
Bottom line is that it appears that bola ties are not considered proper professional attire.

This year I have limited my gift giving to my daughters, my husband, and my nieces and nephews.( because of finances) What do I do in reference to the rest of my family. Do I call them and tell them that I will not be getting them gifts? Do I just except their gifts? I am really unsure about how to handle this situation. What about my brother and sister? Every year we all get eachother gifts, this year I just can't do it! So what do I do, I know there are many people that are getting me gifts, but I am not getting them something in return. Please, how do I handle this situation?

My boyfriend and I are from very different areas within the united states, me urban, him very rural. We have many differences but one of the most aggrovating is our opinions on approaching people. My boyfriend thinks its rude to interrupt someone while they are reading/watching tv/playing videogames ect. I do not. I think those are activities and entertainment, and the person is fair game to be interrupted about small things ie.. dinner is ready, i am leaving do you want to come, ect. To me people are more important... what do you think? Is it rude to walk up and interrupt someone?

My one suitmate has a keychain that says 'men, cant live with 'em, cant shoot 'em'
I think its sexists and rude, but I actually found one that says the same thing only women instead of men, so I bought it for her as a gag gift (along with other things). She got offended and called the campus police saying i threatend to shoot her. Whats with the double standard? was i really wrong to do that?
