it's ridiculous how much there are. in a normal day of school (our grade has 2 blacks, 2 jewish people, 3 or 4 hispanic people, and the rest white) there is a ton of racist jokes. it doesn't bother the white people and i think people think it's okay because we have such little racial diversity. but there are still those people who aren't white and do probably take that stuff seriously.

why is our society so racist??

While God is mentioned in passing in the Declaration of Independence (Which did nothing but start a war) God is not mentioned once in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights and the Treaty of Tripoli specifically states in Art 11 (Voted on unanimously by the same "Christian" founding fathers that everyone goes on about) That America was in no way founded on Christianity. So I think it's fair to say that America was founded because of Christianity (escaping persecution.....though they did just come over here and do it to each other) but not founded ON it.

And please remember that One Nation Under God wasn't added to the pledge until the 1950's and In God We Trust wasn't added until the very late 1800's and had nothing to do with the founding or creation of the US

Do you make yourself a budget or just go out and buy stuff? I love Christmas, but hate it at the same time. We are just barely paying our bills and have a big family so not sure how I am planning on it this year...any ideas...or how do you go about present buying?

Are you sky watching? Do you ever find your eyes drifting to the eastern sky looking for the return of our Lord?

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

I know the answer to this question, I just want to know how many of you do.

And by Founding Fathers, I mean the men who wrote the Constitution and created America as a country, not the pilgrims who first came over from England.

Yes, this will be on the test.

Simple truths, not to mention black & white moral choices, probably appeal to everyone. Religion can readily offer such things, though not always and it's possible for religion to present a more complex vision of reality. That seems to be the exception rather than the rule, which may be one reason why religion seems to succumb to dogmatism and absolutism more readily than other belief systems.

Even more serious than the desire for _easy_ answers, though, is the desire to possess the _only source_ of answers.
I would describe it as an insistence on a religious monopoly of knowledge. When there are alternatives to religious authorities, it's possible for people to make decisions outside the context of religion — and even worse, outside the boundaries of what religion considers acceptable. When there are sources of knowledge and authority outside of religion, it becomes possible for people to find out that religion is sometimes wrong.

this is a graph depicting how much support is given to same-sex marriage by church goers based on church attendance:

i think this is a good representative of how conditioning by church manipulates our thoughts and attitudes toward individualism.

any thoughts?

He was going to the mall and since I was almost out of bath oil I gave him some money and asked him to pick some up for me. He did, but he brought back something called Palmer's (???) instead of Neutrogena, which is the only kind I buy and he knows it.

How should I punish my little sinner?

And does anyone know if this Palmer's stuff is any good?

replacing the word Christmas with "Holiday" is just going a bit overboard. No offense to my jewish friends out there. I mean come on is it really hurting anyone. We had out Christmas..oops should I say holiday part at work, and everyone was trying not to offend anyone, but let's face it. It's always been Christmas and will always be. I've seen Holiday trees in stead of Christmas trees, and even trying to ban Ho Ho Ho because it was seen as offensive to some women.

Honestly is this what we as a country have become. What do you think. Of course if you ask me I love this time of year. CHRISTMAS is my favorite holiday. Yes I am venting.....

John Calvin created a vicious theocracy in which morality police were employed to control people's behavior. Citizens were harshly punished for a wide variety of moral infractions, including dancing, drinking, and generally being entertained. Theological dissidents were summarily executed, like Michael Servetus who was burned for doubting the Trinity. It isn't surprising that some of the nastiest Christians in America today, like Christian Reconstructionists, are unabashed Calvinists
