I know there are some really nice religious people who believe in God, Religion, the Bible or whatever. Some of these people are also bright intelligent academics, but their commonsense and logic seems to fail them completely when questioned about why they believe. They seem to give up logic for blind faith.

I find it extraordinary that otherwise nice bright intelligent people are unable to explain meaningfully why they believe, other than to repeat quotes from historical religious documents (like the Bible) as if they were fact, or just say they have faith and that’s why they believe.

If these same people were presented a Scientific Instruction Manual which contained as many anomalies, speculation, conjecture, and unproven facts as the Bible, they would tear it to pieces in no time at all as being fake.

There seems to be a mental association in the minds of religious people that connects fear of the unknown (like fear of the dark) if they openly doubt their religious beliefs.

if abortion is so bad why do you not bother fighting the reasons women get abortions
example: single mothers often get abortions to keep themselves and thier would be kids out of poverty.
i am prochoice. i dont mind if you are prolife but if you dont like abortions you better do something about it.

I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven.

If the above is true - I would have a problem with being a friend of a follower of Allah when their clerics are telling their followers to kill me.

Question: Would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to Heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to Heaven and He wants you to be there as well?"

Is there any , you know, "scientific" way you can explain light from stars traveling millions/billions of years just to reach our eye sight?
The amount of time it takes for revolutions of stars and the calculated ages galaxies, and supernovas? Why does God make nebulas?

There are substantial differences between the ethic of Jesus, an itinerant charismatic who attracted a group of followers who went with him around rural Galilee , and the ethic of Paul of Tarsus, who founded communities in urban settings and had to lay down regulations for their behaviour. Christianity changed when it came into contact with the Greek world and changed again when it became the religion of the Roman empire . That explains why by the beginning of the second millennium, the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church seem in many respects to be so different from the ideals of their founder. The Catholic Church split, and we now have in the West the Roman Catholic Church, stamped, for example, by Roman law.

Is there an Islamic symbol? Christianity seems to favor the Cross, and Judaism is represented by the Star of David, but is there one for Islam? I've seen a green crescent with a star near the middle quite a bit, is that it?

I have heard that it is wrong to glorify Christ's crucifixion on the cross. Can someone give me a scriptural reference that proves this?

This is mostly geared to Black Women, if not still feel free to answer. I could be watching a show and if a Black man is dating or married a woman of different race, it's no okay. If any thing goes wrong in the relationship, then he deserved it. Like If I'm watching one of the court shows on tv and a black man is getting sued, my mom will say he deserved it.
But
If a Black woman marries a white man it's perfectly ok. She didn't do anything wrong. Other women in my family have said the same thing. It's okay for a black woman to marry a white man, but not okay for black man to marry a white woman.

Why is that?

OK, Mormons say that they are no longer polygamist and they are offended if you call them one, I live in Utah so I know. However, I have studied the Mormon church for 10 years now and have dated Mormons and had many Mormon friends and I know that they still believe in polygamy because they believe that when they die, men can have several wives in heaven. Example: My friends parents got a divorce and her father got remarried. Her father believes that he will be married to his new wife and his previous wife in heaven. However, females only get one husband. Anyways... Can they proclaim that they are not polygamist when they believe they will live eternally in heaven as polygamists? Give me your opinion? Mormons too.

Last night, a neighbor told me that my next-door neighbor shot himself on Monday. He left a widow and two teen-aged daughters.
I did go over when I got home from work, today, but found a note on the door not do disturb them since they were resting. I can only guess that the visits from family and close friends have been tiring, along with the options they must consider as they deal with what must come next, such as funeral preparations and beyond. In the 5 years I've lived here, I've enjoyed visiting with them, sometimes, but mostly him as we'd discuss our hobbies and interests. They've gathered mail and deliveries during my trips out of town. At Christmas, we'd usually exchange a can of nuts or box of chocolates. Despite such visits and exchanges, I doubt I would be considered a close friend -- perhaps a friendly neighbor. So, what should my wife (since last November) and I do to show concern without being too obtrusive?

....Than why does it take our solar system 220 million years to complete one revolution of the core of our galaxy?

also, since our solar system is around the same age as the earth, do you believe the sun is also only <10,000 years old?

ANd the universe too? <10,000? then how do you explain it taking the light from stars millions of years to reach us, being they are so distant, if it were that young, we would have a completely black sky!?

condemn and judge unbelievers? Don't you know it is not for you to judge? - you don't know what God's plan is for their life...now or later... Besides, God knows how to reach people with or without your help. I think alot of this stuff on this website would just drive people away from the truth and not towards it... best answer gets 10pts.
