This a question for the many religious folk who argue that because the universe exists, something MUST have created it. They argue from the standpoint that for anything to exist, something must have created it.
Well, if that's what you believe so strongly, then why is god an exception? What created god?
And if you do believe that god is 'an exception' to the creation-existence rule, then tell me - why can't the universe be an exception the rule also?
