My friend and I are both enrolled in Calculus II, but at different Universities. I'm at SUNY Brockport, and she's at Buffalo State College, both in New York. We thought we had the same book, but apparently we don't and I'd like to know the difference.

My book is called: Calculus: Early Transcendentals Single Variable 5th Edition by James Stewart. It is black and blue/green with the corner of a violin on the right side of the front cover that looks like an integral sign (how cute.)

Her book is Calculus: 5th edition by James Stewart. Same guy. Her book is black and brown though....even with the same design.

So what is the difference? What does it mean by "Early Transcendentals Single Variable?" Will the chapters and numbered questions be the same?

See, she hasn't bought her book yet and we were going to share mine for the time being, but if her class requires the brown version and mine the blue...then we're not sure if we can.

anyway help would be grand! thanks!

My son is a senior in High School and Mathematics come so natural to him. He says the answers to any mathematical question just come to his mind. He doesn't have to work the problems on paper....he just knows. He excelled in Physics, Biology and other Sciences too. He's extremely athletically coordinated too and is active in Wrestling, Volleyball and now Football. I hate to see him waste a God-given gift because he doesn't have real guidance. He needs a mentor to truly see where his gift can take him. Can't find that in High School and unfortunately for him I'm not sure how to help him either. Any ideas?

How would you evaluate 3a + 5, for a = -5? I don't know how to multiply negative numbers.
If you don't show how to evaluate don't bother asking cause I need to know how to do it!

I need a topic that would be good to write 4000 words on. This topic can come from any mathematics subjects. I prefer not to write about math history or anything that relates to history. Can anyone suggest a good topic to write about that relates more to pure mathematics than history of mathematics? Also, please try to keep your suggestions on the college level or at least the high school level. Thanks.
