Do you think it is possible to genetically engineer narcotic plants (like opium or coca) to the effect that once they multiply with their natural counter-parts they spawn plants that would no longer have narcotic properties?

I am not a bioengineer, but would like to know if it is possible.

Given delta H (subscript f) (enthalpy change) for 1M HCl (aqueous) to be -40.0 Kcal/mole and delta H (subscript f)(enthalpy change) for 1M MgCl2 to be -191 Kcal/mole, use the summation law to calculate delta H for reaction with Mg and HCl and compare your experimental values. Calculate your % error.

i having some trouble with naming hese compounds can u help me out?
since i cant draw them i'll try to explain them to u:

1. a pentagon. on one Carbon is attached a CHCH3 and attached to that is a CH3
then the 3rd Carbon from that is a CH3

2. CH3CH2CH2CH2COCH3 and on the 5th carbon is a :O: with a double bond.

3. it sort of looks like this:(!!=double bond)
:O:

Analysis of compound "X" (molar mass 72) containing C, H, and O gave and analysis of 66.7% C and 11.1% H. the compund neither reacted with pheny hydrozine nor gave a positive iodoform test (that's the HALOFORM test). reaction with OZONE and subsequent hydolysis gave METHANAL as on of the products. A mole of "X" absorbed a mole of hydrogen when catalytically hydrogenated to give a product "Y" which could be oxidzed by KMNO4 (pottasium permanganate) to a product "Z" (molar mass 72) which did not react with Fehling's solution. Identify the compounds X, Y and Z.

so far i have found the molecular formula of the compound to be C4H8O. and the degree of unsaturation to be 1. i wanted to really know what is the structure of this compound.

i thought "X" would be .......CH2=CHCH2CH3 with an OH group attached to the 2nd carbon of the double bond.

"Y" would be CH3CH2(OH)CH2CH3
"Z" - CH3C(=O)CH2CH3. ketones do not react to fehlings reagent.

this a h-work question.

I just want to know the main uses for phenol. And when I look it up they give me:

The primary use of phenol is in the production of phenolic resins, which are used in the plywood, construction, automotive, and appliance industries.

I know it's in english but what do they mean by it. What are they implying what the use of phenol is.
