MY 6 yr old daughter wants to know? She got scolded at school for this, and in my household, the middle finger is just like all the other fingers. She has always pointed at things with her middle finger. She asked me why would God give us something, the is supposed to mean something bad. Anyone got the answer to this question?

I see girls who are too young to have boobs, like 8 years old, with their bathing suit tops filled with styrofoam or some kind of padding.

My future DH has an 8-yr-old who's recently been staying with us. The more time I spend with her, I am surprised by what this honor roll child cannot do for herself. Since I don't have kids, I really would like a second opinion-maybe I'm out of line...is it unusual that she still cannot tie her own shoes, take a bath/shower by herself, brush and put her hair in a ponytail and still acts "helpless" if asked to carry in a bag from the grocery or take out the trash?? I'd like to know what I might really be getting into here if I end up being stepmom! Thanks!

My daughter is going on 9. She is very mature for her age but I still dont think she is old enough to be home alone. My husband thinks that she is. Am I being to over protecive? And just to add a little bit more detail, not at night, and only long enought to run to the store, like 10 or 15 minutes or so.

He is very friendly, outgoing, and loves talking to everyone. He thinks that if he says, "Hi," then they are friends. He is about to start kindergarten, and I worry that he would go off with anyone as long as they said hi! We've talked several times about strangers, but he just doesn't get it.

So this week has been a scorcher here in north texas. Triple digit weather. I've been letting my son have company inside rather than play outside. His friend it seems doesn't bathe as often as he should. He comes over early in the morning and instead of looking clean and refreshed, already is a little sweatly looking. And when he leaves, the living room reaks of him. How can I come up with a solution for this. I don't want to hurt the kid's feelings. He is 9, my son is 8. I make sure my son showers everyday, and twice daily now with this terrible heat. This friend of his however, STINKS.

My daughter is seven and she's been wanting to do pageants for the last four years. I told her that she could do one when she turned seven, but now I can't find any near me. I live in Virginia Beach, VA, so I'm looking for pretty much anywhere in Hampton Roads or NE North Carolina.

My daughter is going into 2nd grade. She loves to follow the rules but most of her friends don't. One of her friends loves to push the rules and also tries to get my daughter to do things that will get her into trouble. For example - I told my daughter in front of this child not to hold a cat because I'm allergic and didn't want her to get all full of cat hair. As I started to walk away this child try to get my daughter to hold the cat. My child refused of course.

My daughter also doesn't rock the boat and seems pretty confident. One day her best friend will play with her and the next day her friend will push her away and refuse to include her. My child walks away and plays by herself. I also found out this "best friend" threatens not to be my daughter's friend if things aren't going her way.

Is always playing by the rules going to hurt my daughter in the end or am I worried for nothing?

My kids aren't spoiled and I have tried very hard to teach them that things they are given cost money that I work hard for. They also get an allowance which they save. My kids both got gameboys with games and carrying cases(about 2 years ago). I know things get lost, but about half the games have been lost by now, and recently one lost the entire gameboy. I taught them how important it was to keep things in the case. I've taken gameboys away when the games were laying around the house or being mistreated. No punishment works. I have not replace the lost gameboy, but I can see this hasn't taught my son anything. He doesnt' seem to see the point of it. I have told them they're not old enough to have these things since they can't take care of them, but it doesnt' work......cause if I take away everything they were careless with they'd have nothing! How do you punish this behavior when they dont' care? Should I make my 6yr old save $75 for a new gameboy? Is that realistic?
