Today, 135 years to the day after the last American President (Ulysses S. Grant) suspended habeas corpus, President Bush signed into law the Military Commissions Act of 2006. At its worst, the legislation allows President Bush or Donald Rumsfeld to declare anyone — US citizen or not — an enemy combatant, lock them up and throw away the key without a chance to prove their innocence in a court of law. In other words, every thing the Founding Fathers fought the British empire to free themselves of was reversed and nullified with the stroke of a pen, all under the guise of the War on Terror.

Because Bush said it would float.

Why are you so blindly loyal to someone who cares nothing about you?

The Bush administration has consistently refused to talk directly to the North, insisting the issue is a regional concern and seeking to enlist other countries. (read the article)

Doesn't Bush and his party claim that they are tough on terrorism? At this point in time, isn't King Jong the most dangerous terrorist, waving nuclear weapons in our face?

I don't ever want to hear again how tough on Terrorism the republicans are. They are still touting a psuedo cause as justification for the war in Iraq, when NK is testing long range missles and nuclear bombs. The reason we are not doing anything about NK is because the US is broke and our military is strapped.
What's your take on why US is not interested in the North Korea issue?

If I remember right, Clinton gave North Korea the nuclear building blocks that we see them misusing today. Dems throw around the "idiot" moniker on Bush's neck left and right, but geez, Clinton deserves a gold plated one for this screw up.

Many soldiers think the Libs. embolden their enemy w/ loud negative protests and it causes, the death of their friends and endangers their own life.
I am a vet and I remember that we feared the enemy behind us almost as much as the one in front.

Because the Bush administration knew that bringing them here would trigger their full rights under the constitution. In other words he pulled a fast one - a legal trick. It blinded the US public by burying them under a legal morass that they knew would take time to unravel. Legal? Maybe, but I doubt it. Ethical? Absolutely not.

Are Democrats lying when they say that George Bush is lying about Saddam Hussein having WMDs?

Here are many quotes from 1998 of Bill Clinton saying that Saddam Hussein had WMDs.

Our intelligence community simply believed that Saddam had WMDs and George Bush believed them.

hit the "watch on line" link and read the descriptions of the main participants in the 1st 2 years of Iraq and understand that Iraq may be considered in the future as the worst fiasco in American history. I have always been against the Iraqi war intellectuallly (not emotionally) because it just seemed too simplistic...that the Administration was not only duping everyone, including premeir career government bureaucrats, but themselves as well. I actually don't think so lowly of Bush, it's just the people surrounding him that seemed to be incompetent or just so stubborn as to bring us all down to justify their actions. But after watching Frontline on PBS, I am left with my mouth agape at the sheer stupidity of the whole thing. according to the show, we have been operating in fantasy land the last 2 years.

Okay, I asked this question earlier. I'm not sure what happened but I got no answers. Let me just say that I oppose ANYTHING that would invade the privacy rights of innocent Americans. I feel that law enforcement should not have the authority to hack someone's computer or listen on the phone conversations of those who do not pose a threat to national security. Can we really trust that these folks are not sitting back and laughing at people as they visit porn sites? You know they are, and they are probably listening in on intimate conversations too! I bet its alot of fun! I would consider this a criminal act! No different than anyone else who participates in Cyber Crime and invasion of privacy. I know of many people who have a problem with their computer that no anti-virus program will detect, and even computer technicians cannot fix. There is NO WAY you can convince me that the FBI isn't watching people they shouldn't be watching!
