China isn't communist anymore, it's a capitalist dictatorship. It's a country that is run like a corporation. The government rules top down; people have no say in the county's direction. China can get away with its current mismanagement because there are almost unlimited resources, both natural resources and manual labor. The people are like expendable parts in a giant machine.
China's potential to dominate the world would be unleashed if the people were given the freedom to think, invent, and create. If the people were free, China would acheive its potential and become the world superpower.
Does the West really want that?
Here we are, wasting time supporting the Falun Gongers and a stupid little island like Taiwan, and trying to orchestrate grass-roots change of Chinese society into a democracy, and I think we're going to end up screwing ourselves if we suceed.
Do we really want a free China? Right now, they're their own worst enemy. Let them hold themselves back.

Can I buy a cup of Joe with yer ten points ? Duh.. well so what's it all about then really ? I think this here ..the politics section anyway is just a big Pi$$ing post.. My dog's bigger than your dog, my dogs bigger than yours. Now exchange Dog with Penis and you're starting to get the idea.. so where's a site that we can actually debate on ? Anyone know where we can really argue it out with eachother as opposed to this wham bam excuse for a community ? Sorry to sound disillusioned... but right/left..it's all the same.

This is an honest attempt at clarification. One of the reasons I feel I have grown to be more conservative, is because I am tired of big government. Every platform that a conservative official stands on has something in there about 'Big Government'.

However, the Patriot Act is basically forcing government into our everyday lives. Wiretapping (I know about the ruling from today), illegal search and seizures (what happens at airports now, for example), arrests without warrants...so on and so forth.

It seems to me that in jumping on board with this stuff, you are not only giving up basic rights - you are giving up your principles.

I DO agree that if you don't have anything to hide, don't worry. The problem with that is how do we know that abuse of power won't come in to play? Will the patriot act go away once the war on terrorism is destroyed and islamofacists are either dead are good, white christians?

It just seems paradoxical and I was hoping for clarification. Thank you guys!!

Keep in mind that UNDER THE LAW the NSA can wiretap anyone, anywhere, anytime, with no delay at all...and then get the wiretap approved after the fact.

So there is no hindrance at all on getting wiretaps, yet the Bush administration is telling Americans that there is a hindrance, and it is helping the terrorists if they can't wiretap in complete secrecy.

So the real issue here isn't wiretaps, which the NSA can do whenever they want, IT'S ABOUT HAVING A THIRD PARTY REVIEWING WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

THERE IS ONLY ONE REASON FOR THEM TO AVOID OVERSIGHT: SO THEY CAN COMMIT CRIMES AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Use of "emergency" powers by executives caused the fall of Rome and Germany to Totalitarian regimes. Are Bush and the Republicans establishing the precedents that will destroy us?

"The new Chancellor Heinrich Brüning of the Roman Catholic Centre Party, lacking a majority in parliament, had to implement his measures through the President's emergency decrees. Tolerated by the majority of parties, the exception soon became the rule and paved the way for authoritarian forms of government."

"the Klan quickly became a terrorist organization in service of the Democratic Party and white supremacy. Between 1869 and 1871 its goal was to destroy Congressional Reconstruction by murdering blacks -- and some whites -- who were either active in Republican politics or educating black children."

Im really tired of these movies coming out about 9/11, and the tapes.

Its really ridicoulos if you want people to take this day in history seriously stop trying to make money off of peoples deaths.

I am Kurdish and we have had tragedies like 9/11 on regular basis, like Halabja, we dont dwell on those things, and people dont allow us to. Thats why we tore down that museum, because we dont want to remember a day like that, we dont want to have HALABJA ANNIVERSARIES...thats sick.

If you really want to remember a day like 9/11 you dont need to buy a shirt, watch a movie, read a book about it. Remember it on your own if it is that important.
