Immigration - September 2006

I stay out of here because of the unreasoning hatred that fills the topic. But I've come up with a few, and I wonder how many others you can think of.

Spraying herbicides and pesticides without protection.
Demolition of old buildings filled with lead and asbestos, and carrying off the debris without a mask.
Painting and sand blasting and other construction work without protection.

In fact, any job that it would be illegal to perform without OSHA-approved protection is commonly handed off to people who don't understand the language well enough to realize that they are putting their lives at risk. They aren't "real" people, are they? That seems to be the thinking, at any rate.

Do you feel the same way about questions like " What about the Americans on welfare ?" and " What about Americans that commit crimes ? " . I see those questions and think, what does it matter to you, they are Americans, we will deal with our own problems. Mexico has there own problems, and instead of the people dealing with them, they come here illegally and become yet another problem we need to deal with.

2 Polish nationals plead guilty to 'leasing' illegal workers

Two Polish nationals pleaded guilty Wednesday to leasing out illegal immigrants from eastern Europe to work on U.S. farms, dairies and factories, prosecutors said. A third was sentenced to prison a year after pleading guilty to similar federal charges.

Jaroslaw Sawczuk, 39, and Jozef Bronislaw Bogacki, 43, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra to federal charges of fraud and conspiracy to transport, house and otherwise encourage illegal aliens to remain in the United States.

Pavel Preus, 39, pleaded guilty to similar charges in September 2005. Marra sentenced him to 37 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Preus was also ordered to pay $950,000 for unpaid payroll taxes.
