I have two German Shepherd dogs, one is 3 the other one is 6 years old. The man I live with absolutely hates dogs. Since he moved in ( in Feb. 2006), I gradually had to make my dogs outside dogs, because he can't stand having dogs in the house. Sometimes he would tolerate the male, Max, but I don't know how this will work out, because I love my dogs, I moved 2600 miles cross country with my dog Max, and adopted the female, Stella, when I arrived here.He knew I had dogs the day we met, but I didn't know how much he disliked dogs until he moved in with me.

I will soon be moving and for the first time since leaving home i will be able to have a dog again, i have had dogs in the past as a familt thay incliude a german shepard mix, a husky mix and a jack russel mix, i also grew up with a love of walking instaled in me by the husky mix who was my sole responsabilaty since the age of 12, and though i have a full time job the dog will not be on its own as i will be living in a caravan (soon to be bungalow) on the same grounds as my retired dad and grandmouther in cornwall so i won't be whanting anything big

So I took some of your advice and tried to put my 6 yr old dog from the Humane soc in a crate in the garage. She broke out and scratched out all the dry wall and took the paint off of the steel doors trying to get out. She also pottied in the crate. I am afraid if I stake her to the ground in the yard she will break loose and dig a hole to get out. We are getting desperate since we cannot leave our house without something else being ruined wether it be the carpet or the garbage or the doors/walls. We are leaning towards bringing her back to the humane soc but we just wish there was something else we can do. We don't want her to have to be on medication for the rest of her life. We have put so much time and effort and money into her already that we are just looking for a miracle I guess. We have been taking her to Petsmart for training every week and she is learning but it's not helping us resolve the issues at hand. Any other ideas out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We have a young Portugese water dog that is not neutered and has started 'marking' around the house. We cannot have him neutered anytime soon due to a contract (long story). In the meantime how can we train him not to mark his territory inside? He's a good dog other than that. (Oh, and NO! and punishment doesn't seem to work with this breed.)

anything I can do to help alleviate his carsickness? Sometimes it's just necessary to drive him somewhere, so "no car rides" isn't a solution.

I have a 12 wk old boxer, and she barks alot. I know she is a puppy and she will bark and whine etc, but compared to a few of my friends puppies at this age they did not bark nearly as much. When we have company over I have put her in the back room. If she hears the slightest sounds outside, she will bark for an hr straight.

I refuse to put a shock collar on her or anything like that. I tell her no and kinda slap her on her nose when she doesn't quit but nothing is seeming to work.

Please do not give idiotic answers, I am looking for serious answers only.

My coworker at our pet supply store swears Science Diet is the devil. She said it's really fattening and has too many byproducts. It's basically junk food to them. I figured since the animal shelter gave me a free bag of Sci Diet with my adopted kitten, they recommended it, and I've read that vets also recommend it.

So..... is she just crazy or is she on to something?

My 6 month old Sheltie just finished basic obedience which she excelled in. The instructor (who has been teaching for 20 or so years) said she's the most natural she's ever seen! I had to brag! We are starting agility this week and they use a clicker. I'm afraid the clicker will set her back. I'm planning on doing competitive dog obedience (novice) in December with her. She also has a 12 week old Sheltie brother who is more of an average learner. Should I think about clicker training with him?
