I want to retire early! SF with no kids & big dogs. Looking for a home in decent shape, 800-1200 sqft, preferably with a little land. I can relocate anywhere in the USA - rural, small town, small city (NMT 100,000) but NOT a larger city. Price, safety, and stress free living are my number one priorities. Also, great outdoor lifestyles activities (hiking, mountain biking...etc) and low property & state taxes would be a huge bonus. I am fine with rural as long as I'm within about 100 miles of an area with modern convieniences. Any suggestions? Any one know of any great places, tucked away somewhere with cheap, easy, stress free living?

I have a cocker spaniel and we've just come home from the vet who confirmed his tail is broken, (about 5cm from the tip) She has recommended that we have his tail docked. I just hate the thought. I heard that if the tail is broken at the tip it will usually heal itself. I am living in Turkey and sometimes i wonder if it's not about making money. Do you think she is giving us the right advice.???

I just want to see how much a pitbull, doberman, great dane, rottwhiler, bulldog, and other strong dogs can pull, carry lift or anything, just to see how strong they can get,

This question is not to fite dogs, just to see how strong dogs are.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER...

He is 9 months old. I recently got a job, and he had to be home alone for much of the day. He never was a chewer or anything like that, so we let him have free run of the house. Well one day he got bored and chewed up my rug. He swallowed about 4 feet of carpet and it caused a blockage in his small intestine. He also chewed up his frisbee. The pieces of plastic got caught in the carpet and it ended up tearing the lining of his intestine, also causing infection, and inflammation. Anyway...since he's been home ( he spent 7 days with the vet) I've been doing what she told me, but now he's trying to eat every piece of other dog poop he can find. He has NEVER been interested in other dog poop before. I would ask the vet, but we went on the economy since it was an emergency. And she doesn't know enough english words to explain it to me. So...does anyone know why dogs eat poop? Sorry for the long drawn out details...........

My cousin took his dog to the lake and everything was fine until he noticed that his dog was up on a ledge (like a fifteen foot drop) and he saw her running and trying to stop but ended up flying over the edge. She landed in water but the water was only like a foot or two deep. She appears healthy and happy and ok, but should he take her to the vet just incase?? After she jumped she just ran out of the water (still playing) and all, and ran back in jumping and just having a blast. She is about a year or so old, and is a daschound... may have spelled that incorrectly

I am adopting a Female Chihuahua In a few weeks, Locally. . (No, not because some Pop Diva's carry them in their purses, I have wanted one for years, but there is a time and place for everything. I now have stability)She will be between 8-10 weeks. I have always had large dogs (shepards, Hounds, etc.) So I am a bit lost on this! I have purchased a 24' top of the line crate, with a divider to adjust the crate size as she grows, Puppy training pads, bedding, and food. I feel I am still missing something! What size bowls did you use? should they be elevated? Did you buy toys? What kind? Grooming? House training advice? It has been so long since we've had a puppy in the house, and we've certainly never had one so small! Do any of you seasoned Chihauhua/small dog owners have any advice?

I recently moved and started taking my two dogs to the nearest dog park. I noticed my female dog wasn't as outgoing as usual and decided to brush her to cheer her up. I found several small ticks and proceeded to remove them. Just before I moved in, the land lord had the house and yards sprayed for bugs. I've given both dogs baths, and though I haven't found any ticks on my male, they seem to keep appearing on my female. I don't know what to do to help her. I plan on taking her to the vet next week, but is there anything I can do to help her before then? I'm worried sick.

I seen a website called www.petakillsanimals.com. On the site, they have a news story from CNN and a local NC news channel that says two PETA employees went to a NC animal shelter, and took alot of animals promising the shelter workers that they were going to find the animals loving homes. Instead, they killed all of them and threw the dogs/cats into a dumpster. It is very shocking. It even has pictures of the inside of the van, the dogs/cats, and a quote from the manager of the grocery store, saying that he was finding animals in the trash for weeks. Also they have vet records that PETA killed over 90% of the animals they had at their headquarters, and only adopted out 235 animals there in 2005. I thought PETA was a no kill origation. If you donate to PETA like me you might want to see this, It it is making me think of never donateing to them again. I warn you, it is graphic!!!!
