Right now my cat is 11 years old, she's overweight, and I go off to college in three years. My family has two cats, one of them is mine and the other is my mom's(my dad hates cats). should i take my cat off to college or should i leave her here when i go? my cat loves me and she gets really depressed when i go on vacation but im afraid if i take her to college then she will get too stressed because of her new surroundings after 14 years. what should I do?

I got my dog when I was 7 for christmas... That is when 101 dalmations were HUGE! Anyways I am the youngest girl with 2 older brothers and they are extremely close (with each other, not me) The dog is now 13 yrs old and still has the run of a 3 yr old. I have recently told my boyfriend that I live with how close I am with my dog and he laughed at me... almost like I wasn't being serious. When things hit the fan at my house and my brothers would cling to each other I would have my dog. Is this strange to anybody?

i have a 13 week puggle puppy. i love him to death but i'm having alot of issues with him, especially housetraining. i crate him at night with me, and when i'm away for work. i take him out on 6 walks, have a dog walker, who walks him twice, and whenever i'm at home with him i have him stationed on a leash beside me. i monitor his water intake. but still...as soon as he's off the leash, to eat or whatever, he runs away from me and pees on the floor. he holds it all night no accidents, but as soon as he gets away or if i just turn my head he pees on the floor (never poos). what can i do? i'm so frustrated. should he be crated more often? i work eight hours, aside from the hour the dogwalker comes, so i feel guilty crating him while i'm home? am i wrong? i really am looking for the signs, i walk him after hes out of the crate, i walk him after he eats, before i put him in the crate, i never correct him if i don't catch him in the act and praise him if he go's outside. what can i do?

Hmmm, my last question seemed to provoke some intense debate. A lot of you seem to be dogmatically certain that animals have souls. Could you prove it?

(and before you answer, I have to let you know one fact - the word "soul" is derived directly from religious texts so don't try to use it in a non-religious context - that would not be logical)

I just got a new ball python snake 3 days ago. I think it is stressed because it won't move around in its cage. Today is the day it usually eats. I put the snake in a cardboard box with the pinky mouse but it is not eating it. How long should I wait before I take the snake out and put it back in the cage? How long should I wait till I try and feed it again? And what should I do with the pinky mouse?

My 5 yr. old golden retriever, Sophie, has a tumor the size of a soda can on her chest. It is benign. However, it is so big that it somewhat hinders her front left leg's movement. Yesterday, as she was jumping around, she hurt her leg, probably because the tumor got in the way. She does not appear to be in any pain, but is limping and tries to avoid putting pressure on the leg. Other than that she is perfectly normal, good appetite, playful, breathing fine. Her limp, however, has been slowing her down quite a bit. We are wondering whether we should euthanize her sooner rather than later. Please give us your input. Thank you.

Some of the answers I see here make me wonder if there are people out there who actually think animals are equal to humans. The family dog is a PET not a human with an immortal soul.

Animals are animals and we should protect them and care for them, and punish abusers BUT

People are superior and therefore have the greater responsibility to be good stewards of creation. Agreed?

My boys each got hermit crabs a week ago. The purple claw kind. My son found a snail shell in the river yesterday. The hermit moved in last night and now he's dead. The shell was the same type that he had been in but was smaller. More of his claws hung out. Why did he die? My other son's hermit is much smaller and seems fine. I haven't been able to tell if they are eating their food. They have been kept at the proper temperature and humidity. I've offered fruit as well as food but it goes uneaten? I have hermit safe water but no salt water. Is it necessary? HELP

we just had a chick recently hatch out, about an hour ago. Everything seemed to go fine, but there is this little stringy thing hanging from his rear end that is stuck to the egg shell. His body came out fine, and is not attached to shell in anyway, it's just that little stringy thing that is connected to his shell.

He seems alright, but everywhere he goes, the shell comes with him...kinda like a little leash. Any ideas what this is? Should we get rid of it? I'm not going to mess with anything until I know what it is.

I have a very small (6 pound) LhasaPoo puppy. A mix between a Lhasa Apso and a Poodle. He's all black, with a little white bib. His name is Bubba.. Although I don't think he knows that. I need help with potty-training him.. He just doesn't get it! He's had a few accidents, because of careless behaviour on my part.. But I'm seriously trying to train him now.. He just doesn't understand. In the car, when he's in his taxi he gets it perfectly and barks when he has to 'go'.. But when he's inside, he just 'goes'.. Doesn't bother to let us know. I've tried to 'watch for signs' such as sniffing and ect, but he doesn't give much warning! What's the best way? I tried crate training, but he hates the wire crate.. Because we have two cats and when he sees them he wants to go play.. Then he barks. His bark is a yippy lil thing.. And it gets ANNOYING! I don't want to put him in a secluded area 'cause I'll feel bad for him. Please, give me your advice!

I don't understand people are condemend for letting their pet dog have a litter. It's like the ultimate sin to some of you. We are accused of "doing it for money" and "being irresponsible."

Why can't we be more understanding and accepting of people's reasons for breeding? Not everyone wants a show quality dog. Because my neighbor's dog had puppies, I was able to get a wonderful purebred retriever at a decent price.

My family let her have ONE litter because we loved her and wanted to keep one of her puppies, and share the others with friends and neighbors who requested. Also, we thought the birth experience and caring for puppies was a good learning tool for our children.

Breeders and shelter workers, can you accept that there are good reasons for breeding besides producing show dogs or "improving the breed?" I think you are taking an unrealistic and judgmental view - please, correct me if I'm off base.

P.S. My family has also adopted animals from shelters.

I read somewhere that you should skip a day of feeding to help your fishes digestive system. Is this true? (please only answer if you're knowledgeable in the area of Betta fish)

My dalmatian seems to be afraid of the back gardena ll of a sudden. She used to pee there in the mornings before I took her out for a normal walk, but now I have to walk out with her, or she just refusues at times to even go there. Another neighbour who has a dog, which she barks at and doesnt like , and it doesnt like her , might be the problem as when she started barking, I was told by the vet to squirt her with a wee bit of water (i felt bad), but sis it anyway.. Is it my fault she is like the?or , as I thought, someone else has done something to her? We have 2 neighbours who have acess tot he back garden.Or is it that since i have been off on mat leave and was more able to take her to the park right accross the street ( i was more mobile in June than I am now), that she now preferrs to pee at the park ?

My dog does something very strange, and I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. First of all, I should mention that she is a mix of black lab and golden retriever, and is about 8 years old.

When we go to my family's camp, we noticed that she liked to take plastic water bottles (bottled water) and take them somewhere. He didnt think anything of it, but then we noticed that she was walking on the beach, and pulling rocks out with her mouth. Once she has the rock in her mouth, she will walk around the camp three times with it. Always exactly three times. And then we didnt know what she did with that rock.

But one day, my dad was doing work under the camp. He saw probably 30 water bottles. They were half buried in holes my dog dug, sticking up in the air, always with the cap in the ground. Next to every bottle was a rock she grabbed out of the beach.

What the heck is she doing this for? Its not concerning, just interesting, and a little strange!

Ok, I'm deciding between getting a Guinea pig, or getting a kitten.
I'm looking for something that...
- cuddles.
- is cute.
- playful.
- not too noisey.
- not too smelly.
- won't go nuts if i try to handle it.
