what does it mean when cats wash eachother

2007-08-14 06:15:49 · 12 answers · asked by leanne 1 in Cats

Yesterday my cat was fine in the morning but in the evening the bottom of her mouth, I guess you could say chin, was really swollen and she is drooling. The drool is kinda thick and stringy and she gets irritated if you touch around her mouth. She is also in a bad mood. It looks the same today. I was thinking it may be a tooth infection but could that really happen that fast? Any ideas?

My cat breathes weird, as if she has a cold, but she's done that for most of her life. She also is pretty skinny and she doesn't let people pet her unless she's laying down. she eats and is active, chasing my other cat around. she hasn't been spayed yet, but she will soon. She's 4 years old. Can she have cancer?

Okay so I've had my cat for a few months, now, and I love him. He's so funny and cool. The thing is I can be away a lot for hours when I'm at work. If I happen to be at home, he wants to play, and I'm not always up for it. The thought of getting another cat has creeped into my head. However, I'm not really too keen on having to take care of two litter boxes, nor do I want to spend the money on taking care of two cats. Vets, food, etc, this stuff ads up. At the same time, I feel a little bad for my cat. Any advice?

I have a boy cat , and so my question is if I got another kitty for him to play with during the day would he spray everywhere?

Yes he is neutered already, but cats still spray their yucky territorial juice.

We took her to the vet and they said she had an upper respiratory infection and had to go on antibiotics, which could make her not want to eat and starve to death. She only weighs 1/2 a pound and even before she was put on the medicine would not eat. Now we have to force feed her. All she does is sleep on my lap, she looks so sick. They said she will probably die. Any tips on how she can get better? Please help me, I can't lose her.

I have a beautiful, thriving community tank. Mollies, danios, tetras, catfish and a betta. The mollies breed and the other fish are very active. My water is fine. I have tried several times to add a few female swordtails. ( I want to add more color) They all end up dying. I thought swordtails were supposed to be easy keepers?!

My kitty Bill was so sweet and lovable when I adopted him at just a few months old. Now that he is a little over a year old his whole personality has changed. He bites me all the time, and it is not a hard bite but he claws along with that. Sometimes he knows better and just bats at me without his claws but he will rarely ever just come lay on my lap. He always sleeps on my bed by my feet when I go to sleep. If I am lucky I will catch him snuggling up to me at night. My b/f and I work fulltime so we are gone all day at work. What is his behavior displaying and is there a way to slowly fix it??

I live on a farm with many other cats and I found a stray yesterday. I wasn't really sure if he was friendly or not- so I tried to keep my distance and bring myself closer as time went by. Eventually I was able to bring him into our garage for the night with a few other cats (they didn't fight, but those were the few good ones).

I plan on keeping this cat, but I'm afraid if I let him outside he'll get in a fight with one of our others (it's happened several times- did happen a couple) and run away. I mean, we're surrounded by cornfields- once he's out there, he might not come back.

How should I help him be comfortable with his atmosphere (outside the garage)? How do I get all of the animals to get along?

My family and I don't want him inside though. Our location in the country is very safe for animals. We have a dog and she pretty much keeps every type of animal away.

Thanks in advance!

I adopted a female cat 1 year ago (Punky), she's 7 now and I just recently adopted another cat (Drax), male and he is also 7.

Needless to say that Punky wasn't too pleased to see Drax entering the house but she is better now.

The only thing is that it looks like she is trying to pick a fight, she runs after him and even give him good boxing punches.

So, is she playing or trying to instigate a fight ?

My cat is like 3 years old. He was abandoned and hit on the highway when he was just a few weeks old and I have had him since then. He has always been a little needy (which I understand) and like to sleep on my bed above my head (which doesn't bother me). He even "nurses" or "suckles" on my arm/hand still. All of this is fine, he only does it when he is winding down for the night and now it is mostly when the other cats are not interested in his affection.

Here is the problem, in the last few weeks, he has been getting up around 3am every single night and going crazy - climbing on furniture in my room, scratching the walls or blinds basically until I wake up. I have tried locking the cats outside of my bedroom because EVERY night this goes on for like 2 hours - but when I do that he scratches at the door and it is even louder than him meowing and scratching in the room. The other 2 cats are fine. How can I teach him to leave me alone at night?

Does touching/handling an FIV positive cat, then touching a non-FIV cat cause this to spread. I know it's mostly spread by saliva and biting, but is there any cause for concern thru human/cat/cat contact?
