On Thursday evening, my pug ate a poisonous plant that irritated her throat and airways. She went to the emergency room and is going to be fine. However, she can't shake a symptom: periodic coughing. It's not kennel cough, she doesn't vomit, and it most often occurs in the morning or when she is excited. The vets said the symptoms from eating the plant should have passed by now so it may be something else. They said we just have to wait and see if she gets better or worse before they can tell, though. They don't suspect she's in any immediate danger but this cough sounds awful and not knowing what is wrong with her is killing me! Has anyone else's pug (or other flat-nosed breed dog) had a weird hacking cough like this? If so, what was the cause and/or solution?

Ok, so both of my puppies have heartworms...
I know that they get it from blood transfusions... like from other dogs, when a mosquito bites one infected dog, it will infect other dogs too...

I was just wondering... how did the heartworms start?
I mean, cancer, aids, asthma... all of these diseases, didnt pop up until the last two centuries...

How did heartworms start originally...
if anyone knows.. shed some light please...

Hi,
I have a female betta I got yesterday at Petco. Well after I looked at her closer from a birds eye view I realized that her scales had a very very very very very slight rise to them. So my question is currently she is in a 1 gallon tank with Jungle Brand Fungus Cure Meds and 1/5 tablespoon of aquarium salt, is that a good treatment or should I buy the more expensive meds like Maracyn? If so, what Maracyn?

alrite since my puppy is already used to peeing outside when we let him out, what happens when he's finally housebroken and we're not home? like where will he "go" if no one can let him out? because on my other question people said to get rid of the potty pads. please answer w/ serious answers =]

I've had my Husky for 5 years and when I got him as I pup, I loved him very much. But there were times when he misbehaved and I would smack,push, and kinda beat him. I did it several times until he was around six months old then I realized how bad I was treating him so I vowed to him I would never do that again and we bonded so closely. We would rough play and had alot of fun! It seemed like he trusted me again after awhile. After 4 years of not laying a hand on him everything was beautiful until I caught him misbehaving and I did it again! That day I was so stressed out (I know, no excuse).I told him I was sorry and I started to cry. At first he was hesitant to approach me, but now he does and he can still give me kisses. That was two weeks ago and I haven't laid a hand on him since, but he won't rough play with me anymore. The thing is I moved out of state and won't be back for 4 months. My brother is taking care of him, but I'm afraid he won't bond with me anymore. Help us please.

Whenever I come home and play with him, he jumps on me. I stick my knee in front of me before he does that, and once he jumps on it, I gently shake him off. Anyone who tries to play with him gets the same response. When we're near him, we can't bend over or he might try to bite/lick us or jump on us. Can I train him to stop jumping on me and my family?

I was on vacation for 2 months & I left my dog with my dad, since I wasn't there for him he kinda lost his appetite. so my dad had to feed him with wet dog food & dog treats, because that was the only thing he wanted to eat. Now I'm back & he does not want to eat dry food, not even with wet food =/

I have been calling Rocky a beagle/shepherd mix, but being a mutt he could be 12 different types of dog in one. Any guesses? I got him at an animal shelter 16 months ago. He weighs 37 lbs. He is approximately 2 1/2 years old. And before anyone asks....he was neutered at my vet's office before he ever came home. :)

When I got Tiger(morkie) from my breeder he was feeding it Iams puppy, so i continued that for a little and he was fine, then i switched him to Chicken Soup. He started having loose stools, and i thought it was just from the food change, but he has continued the really bad smelling and loose stools, and he also passes gas all the time! I'm changing his food, but i'm not sure what i should give him. I know i should give him premium food, but isn't Chicken Soup supposed to be good? He was okay with iams, so my vet gave me a free bag of purina pro plan. Im thinking of using it, im just not sure. I am thinking of Canidae, Innova or Royal Canin, but i dont want the same thing to happen. What should I do?

My male cat, neutered, began peeing blood today. I've noticed he's been squatting weird lately. Like, it would look like he's peeing but there would be no pee. Then today I wake up and find little puddles of blood everywhere. My guess is he has a bladder infection. Unfourtanetly, I was just laid off of work so I don't have very much money.

I was wondering if there's anything else I can do or give to him, to cure him??

I heard on the news on the radio this morning that they are actually in the rodent family. Someone did some dna testing and said that they are not K9 and have been bred to resemble canines. Has anyone else heard this?? I love my chihuahua dearly, rat or not!!!!

She has been losing weight, but seemed happy enough and eating and drinking normally. In the last week she has developed a really swollen abdomen. Shes quite lethargic and is having a problem getting around with her big tummy. Have taken her to the vet today, but he didnt seem to know what it might be other than to worm her. She also lives with her siblings 1 male, 1 female, who are both fine. Any clues anyone please?

Can anyone tell me why my goldfish has changed from golden to white/pearly colour. Introduced a filter machine and was wondering if it might be shock or stress. Other fish seem to be ok. Moved them into a bigger bowl (only 2 of them in a 30litre tank now.)
