I live in Washington now but am moving to California. In WA, dogs do not need heartworm prevention medication. What are the risks with giving a dog heartworm prevention medication? I don't want my dog to get sick from the medication or from heartworms!

get my basset hound dog,to eat tin dog food,i have tried him with every type you can mention,even the biscuit type and he dont want to know , all he wants to do is eat scraps of food that are given to him,i have stopped all the family giving him bits of food, left the tin dog food in his dish thinking he will eat when he hungry,and he still wont advise please

My dog just ate a leather baseball cover. He is a 100 lb Rottweiler mix. How long can I safely observe him for signs of bowel obstruction? Is there anything else I should do while he is under observation?
Medical opinions only please....I am a responsible pet owner and I already feel bad enough that I wasn't watching him as carefully as I should have.

His underbelly is pink, underarms are pink. The fur around the underarms are tinted slightly more red. The fur around his eyes are a darker tinted red (but that I can understand that as he is low to the ground). His anis is swollenish but doen't seem to poss a problem. He's doesn't appear to be be that desturbed by it. But he does scratch and swipe his face on my kitchen floor. I have also noticed a couple of sneezes or coughs but not due to over exitement. Once again, this dose not appear to really fbe of importance to him. Any clues? I think maybe, allergies? Heat rashes (don't babies have thoughs?) he also tends to cool his hoo hoo by laying his belly flat on the floor and leggs spread to the side. I think I have thought about all the first line of defences, unless there is another "obvious thing I might be missing? And in the event that it isn't something normal what else should I consider, so I can assist a vet.

I purchased one without researching them about 6 years ago at least and the little guy has grown from a half inch to about 3 inches. Anyone have one or have any experience with them??? Curious as to their lifespan, tankmates, and general info. Internet has been kind of cloudy and I am reading tons of different things. Any help is greatly appreciated!

after distemper shot, this is his 2nd of 3. He got sick the first night vomited and acting really punk, and off and on for the next few days. Now the last few days he is fine. has onyone ever experienced this. i am trying to figure out if it was the shot, or maybe something else.

During an Ultrasound exam my vet found a mass, about 1/2 centimeter, on my minature Daschund's spleen. He tested him again 6 weeks later and the mass has remained the same size. My vet is suggesting removal of the spleen. Has anyone out there had their dog's spleen removed. How is the recovery. Does anyone out there have a dog with a growth in their spleen and opted not to have the surgery? I want to do what is best for my dog but I don't want to put him through such a surgery unless I am sure it is for the best.

There was this Parakeet that went into a bar and asked the bartender for some peanuts. The bartender said "No we don't have any peanuts." Then the parakeet left the bar. The next day the parakeet came back to the same bar and asked the same bartender the same question "Do you have any peanuts?" So then the bartender again said the same thing that he had none. He'll get spastic and all of a sudden swim around real fast and thrash... is he sick?? :( Also, my brother saw him eat his poop earlier... but I think maybe he's just hungry. Which is weird. Because I'm feeding him regularly.

How do you know if your cat has fleas? How can cats get fleas? My friend thinks my cat might have them but she doesn't go outside much. Maybe once every three or four days. And she doesn't go far from our step. She rubs on the ground though. Could she get them from that?

and my dog still has fleas!Well first she got a flea dip at the groomers and then i bought some frontline plus and applied it to her that day and its been about a week later and i still see flea dirt and actual fleas.theres not that much but still! I dont know what I should do.help please.

This was my first question and now I have a follow up to it below



We have a stray momma cat who hangs out around our house. She just recently had 4 babies next to our shed probably 3-5 days ago. She had them next to the shed and today moved them under it. But she left one out. I know that if the mother thinks that the baby will not survive she will reject. It is so hot right now (104 degrees) and I feel bad for the little guy. I don't know if I should help or just let nature take it's course. any help would be great. Thanks


So I tried to get the kitten to save it but momma cat came after me hissing and ready to attack. Now what do I do? I honestly don't think she is going to except the kitten because it is at the back of the shed and she has moved all the others to the front and is nursing them.

I have a betta that I have had for approximently 8 months. In my spare time I try to figure out ways to teach it the following tricks.

The loop where it swims in a loop
The dolphin jump
and The switch where there are two tanks tanks next to each other and the fish jumps back and forth from each one.
Please tell me how to teach my fish with out scaring or frustrating it.
