I have been told that that if you remove the food source then they will leave. I have spread insect killer, but the problem is that I have a lot of worms in the soil and it is almost impossible to get rid of earthworms, and I understand that worms are their favorite food. I have also tried the spiked traps with limited success but I’m looking for a more permanent solution.

Areas of mold (black and some gray) in a basement that flooded three times this spring. We're working to fix the water problem. We're planning to remodel anyway, so the old paneling isn't a big loss, but I don't want to release tons of mold spores into the air if they're toxic. My inclination is to hire an independent testing lab, find out what type of mold we have, then use their remediation plan to hire a contractor to deal with it. Are we likely to have to clean it up first and THEN remove the damaged areas? Or is removal itself a viable means of solving the problem? Can a regular contractor do this? How much should I expect the testing to cost? If we're not suffering from any clearly related physical problems now (it's been there for months, I'd guess), will we need to vacate the house while remediation takes place? My husband wants to just hire a regular demolition crew to pull the paneling out, but I'm not comfortable going that route. Informed opinions appreciated.

I have a 20'x20' storage unit, that's somewhat in the country. I found mice in mine,... and it wasn't just a couple of them. I talked to the manager, and he said that someone probably has food in a unit close to mine. I asked if there was anything that could be done, and he said, "You've gotta remember - you're in the country. There's mice everywhere."

Is there any other way to remove them fast and effectively, other than traps? I'm going there after work today to see what can be salvaged and if anything can be repaired.

Any ideas?

Just had a set of taps put on at home by a call-out plumber, and when I asked how long the work will be guaranteed for, he just laughed and then said, Why? What's going to go wrong?"
Surely this is a sensible question?

I have two units..one on the ceiling & one plug in unit. 1st the ceiling one went off & we changed the battery, then the floor one & we moved it for a while. After an hour, the ceiling one went off again, but not the floor one...Should I be concerned? We are not running the heat, but we are using the a/c & have forced air. No gas stove or oven...only other gas run appliance is my clothes dryer & we are not running it now. Could this be a false reading somehow? Should I be concerned & is there anything I should do or could do to be sure that my family is safe?

There is no leaking problem, just build-up of moisture from winter, or exposure from leaving windows open, etc. I would like to sand the sill, then recoat with something to keep it matching with the rest of the window woodwork (which is 15 years old). I'd rather not refinish the entire window area, just the bottom sill.

These spots showed up after a dinner party. I'm not sure if there was moisture involved, but they have the shape of bowls that were set down. The table is an antique oak thing, and has a darkish stain that is old and looks great except for the spots. The spots seem to come out with a little rubbing, but I am not sure if the finish is damaged. Is there a safe product or simple process for removing these stains without hurting the stain? As a hint, I think that the lady who owned this table used a lot of murphy soap, and we theorize that she improperly caked on too much of it...not sure that fact matters. Thanks for your tips.

We have been in our new concrete slab house for 15 months. My kitchen vinyl ripped and we noticed moisture underneath. The flooring people ripped up all the vinyl after confirming there was moisture in all the areas of the home covered w/ vinyl. Nobody can figure out why the moisture is there. They have checked for busted or leaky pipes, ran cameras in the septic system and drilled holes in the outside concrete to see if water was pooled underneath the slab with negative results. They think it my be "black slab" which means the concrete did not cure before the vinyl was laid. The concrete was grey prior to the vinyl being laid, but it is now black. I fear that is mold. The flooring people have brought out a moisture meter several times and the moisture levels are off the charts. They have brought in dehumidifiers to try and dry out the concrete which hasn't worked. We don't know what to do. If the concrete didn't cure properly, will it have to be repoured? Please help!!!

It wasn't plugged in at the time, but it fell into the tub that had water in it. That was 2 days ago. Is it safe to plug it in and see if it works? Would the in line circuit breaker protect me from getting shocked? Should I just throw it away and get a new one?
