what the heck is co2????

2007-08-01 16:59:42 · 19 answers · asked by Anonymous

Some people say it's natural and we shouldn't worry. Like it happens over 3 million or billion years like a pattern of earth's weather. A lot of people think it's too much carbon and this is all man's fault and the earth will never be the same. I need more people's answers.

it can melt it all.first of all if we do have carbon dioxide in the air it will evaporate the water to create clouds. then the albedo of the clouds is going to reflect the solar radiation to space.

1. Man increases co2.
2. co2 causes global warming.
3. additional heat creates more clouds.
4. more clouds reflect more sunlight from Earth onto Mars, thereby causing the additional warming seen there.

study of that. He also said that if it comes out to be true, hes
gonna stick a cork up his butt hole.

The Christian Science Monitor reports:

""MOSCOW — As global warming makes exploration of the Arctic sea floor possible for the first time, Russia has launched a massive expedition to help secure the region's vast resources.

In the next few days, two manned minisubs will be sent through a hole blasted in the polar ice to scour the ocean floor nearly three miles below. They will gather rock samples and plant a titanium capsule containing the Russian flag to symbolize Moscow's claim over 460,000 square miles of hitherto international territory — an area bigger than France and Germany combined in a region estimated to contain a quarter of the world's undiscovered oil and gas reserves. ""

Will global warming skeptics continue to advocate ignoring the global warming crisis as well as continue blocking dvelopement of renewable fuel technology that could free the US and the world from its oil addiction?

Russia sure isn't treating global warming like it's a "big hoax."

We have all been hearing about the reasons to "go green" in the wake of global warming. Automobile seems to have become the favorite target to cut down on the green house gases. I have no problem with that, but I am wondering if automobile is the biggest source of carbon dioxide emissions. You see, automobiles stay on the road, so I would think that the trees and other greenery would absorb the carbon dioxide. Whereas, airplanes when they emit CO2, there is no greenery to absorb the emissions. Of course, as we all know, the CO2 is heavier than Nitrogen and Oxygen, so it will slowly descend down and get absorbed. So, I think it should be a combination of both the sources that we need to control, but we don't hear about cutting back on the number of flights, which in fact, are on the increase!

I know that some people say that its completely natural, and some people say that its all our fault, and i see both sides of the argument, anyone got any strong arguments for their view?

My personal opinion is that the Earths atmospheric temperature has fluctuated naturally in years when no human activity was around, so therefore any warming is natural, however we are not helping it, and we are accelerating the natural fluctuation.

The consensus of scientist at the CDC and WHO state that the Avian Flu Pandemic is going to happen, it's not a question of IF it will happen, but WHEN.

Over 2/3rds of the population will get this virus, and the H5N1 virus strain is much more lethal than even the bubonic plague!

The virus will spread faster because of global warming and will swiftly cripple total populations of countries. Even the Pentagon is developing strategies to counter the effects of this crisis!

So why is this crisis being ignored? The consensus says it's going to happen, so that means it's inevitable!

Even if they said this back in 2001, it still could happen any day now......

All the scientific evidence says that if we continue burning fossil fuels, the greenhouse effect will increase, the polar icecaps will melt, and sea levels will rise 40 feet everywhere. 200 million people will become refuges.

All the scientific evidence says that if we continue burning fossil fuels, the oceans will continue absorbing that carbon, the oceans will become warmer and more acidic, and storms will become more severe and more frequent everywhere. The super cells depicted on "The Day After Tomorrow" are unrealistically extreme, but atleast 2 new catagories of hurricane will be established, and the Fujita scale for tornadoes will become obsolete. Millions will die globally every year in disasters.

All the scientific evidence says that if we continue burning fossil fuels, the percentage of methane in the atmosphere will increase proportionally, which will fuel bushfires and forest fires globally, increasing their intensity, speed, range, and frequency.

The list goes on.

Remember when he took credit after Y2K saying his initiatives are what prevented chaos on Y2K. Will he take credit in a million years when the earth naturally goes through its cycle and cools itself off again as it has done over and over for millions of years?

Soda companies deliberately make CO2 in mass quantities every single day. Every time we open a soda, the CO2 is released into the atmosphere. Is soda really worth killing the planet over. Seems to me, the spread of sodas to other countries has helped in the acceleration of globel warming. It's not the only cause, but it is a major contributor that seems to be overlooked.

Arguments against global warming here are most often just philosophy. "Man is too weak to affect the climate." "It has to be the Sun." "Volcanoes are powerful." "Scientists are lying to get money." "Politicians are lying to get money."

But science is about data. Scientists have seen much stranger things than global warming proved, because the data said so. Like quantum mechanics and relativity.

The data backing (mostly) man made global warming has been measured independently by thousands of scientists all over the world. Saying its all a conspiracy is nuts.

Theories that it's natural are not accepted in the scientific community because they don't match the observed data. Theories that it's mostly man made greenhouse gases are accepted because they do match the data. The key word below is "quantitative"

"Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

Okay, so I confess my question may sound bold but so many deniers in this section seems to think that everyone believing in Global warming but not transforming into cavemen/women are hypocrites?

Makes me wonder if this is the reason they continue to deny global warming? They don't want to go back to the caves and would consider them selves hypocrites otherwise?

Isn't the slightest step in the right direction towards less emissions better than none?

What do you think?

They get so defensive!Instead of o.k.,we should take better care of the planet now!We have devastated it enough already! We will take this as a lesson to make changes! We will think of the poor people, creatures, and nature that have already been affected by it,and not be so arrogant about wether its really man-made or not!Its a good thing we found out now, before its too late! The guilt and the shame!

I am asking you people, why don't you care about global warming? Society/Government/People in charge/ANYONE ANYWHERE doesn't seem to care. Some people doesn't even seem to be aware of it or realize that it's happening. No one isn't doing anything. I mean, I haven't noticed any progress. And seriously, those who still don't "believe" in such thing as Global Warming/Climate Change, you really need to get updated. You rather believe in such thing as a "God" than an actual, upcoming event? That is ridiculous. There is facts and evidence that the climate is going to change radically, but so far there has never been any evidence of God's existence whatsoever. That just proves how fked up people are..
