Movies - 28 September 2006

I saw a movie a long ways back about a sometime in the future when the government makes everyone wear these things around their head that causes everyone to be equaly intelligent, but really it makes everyone idiots. And there is this one guy who is a genius and even with this thing on he can think for himself. All I remember si that it starts driving him crazy and at the end of the movie he goes on t.v and shoots himself in the head. Anybody have an idea as to which movie I'm talking about?

ok to go a little more in depth i want to know if someone has legally purchased a DVD and makes a copy for themselves to watch so that they can keep the master copy from getting scratched or otherwise damaged is it illegal? i know if someone sold copies or even gave them away for free it is illegal but i feel its a good idea to use a copy rather than the store bought version becouse they are expensive, if someone damages the copy they didnt lose but a $1 disk and could make themselves a new copy. so what do you guys think? is this wrong? and whats the likelyhood of getting cought, if someone keeps it to themselves as they should.

I thank the movie started out with a small flying spaceship shaped robot that crashed into a mans window. I think it latered died and had 2 smaller baby spaceships that flew around and fixed things in the restaurant. the restaurant was located in a urban setting that was about to be bulldozed down so a high rise could be built. sometime in the move the restaurant was burnt down by vandals and the ships were able to rebuild it overnight. Someone has to know what I'm taking about. I thank it came out in the late 80s. I've seen it on cable tv. Please help
