This would mean man or woman, black or white, gay or straight, and young or old would all be treated the same.

after rereading it i realized that all the words dont stand on their own comfortably. how could i fix this (unless it is ok)

Why is it that most of the questions asked and answered on this site are so full of grammatical mistakes and spelling errors ? Is this an indication of how poorly the schools are teaching English or is it that the writers aren't smart enough to use spellcheck ? Or are they just too lazy ? Whatever the case, it's really disturbing and often difficult to understand what they are trying to say.
