Hello, This question directed to any college/university student who consider themselves successful, (i.e. do well in school, have a good GPA, majored in astrophysics lol etc..) What do you believe makes a student sucessful? Do you have any study tips/or techniques that have been helpful to you in the past? How many hours a week do/did you spend studying to achieve good grades? What do you do to prepare for tests, how do you stay motivated? How do you study for long periods of time without going insane? Please share your stories with me, I am looking to improve my study skills. I don't want any links to sites with tips on how to study, I would like REAL tips from real people. I would also like to hear any personal advice you have about college, i.e. what was your experience like, did you find it an overwhelming or enlightening experience or both etc... Thanks

I'm considering applying there, but not sure. The only drawback I have about it is the city location...not being used to the city at all really. But I would like to be more familiar with a city setting...sort of expand my horizons. Not that it's the only reason for considering a college in the city. For Temple University in particular, I hear they have a great journalism program...(possibly) the best one in the Philly and surrounding areas.

I had a teacher, teaching assistant actually, who desperately wanted to feel as if he had 'inspired' someone despite not being very profound... He would constantly ask politically charged questions, but in a biased, leading manner, "how many of you actually buy this argument.." When met with anyone who disagreed with him we would insinuate that you must not have done your reading; only when you make reference to the text he will exclaim "well I simply don't agree with that!!" I tried simply not responding to any questions when it is obvious how he feels, but the a$$hole will actually outright ask for those who disagree, only to become hysterical when you do...So how should I handle this?

i am in my final year of marketing at university.
i've had a casual retail assistant/cashier job (now on average working 2 times a week, for about 5 hours each) for the last 3 years. However, am thinking of quitting, as i don't really need the mere $100 (or there about), am not stimulated or challenged, and don't get along with some of the managers there. Not to mention, I could devote additional time to my study.

On my CV/Resume, will this job make a difference? If so I might as well keep at it till I graduate and add an additional year to my experience. Plus I can try to accomodate the whims of the managers so that I don't walk away on a completely bad note.

I heard work experiences, and internships are important, but what about something like this?

here's the thing: i know im a very capable student. if i had worked harder in my freshmen and sophamore years, i would have had at least near a 3.8ish gpa. but i dont do so well with getting my homework done and completed in a timely fashion. its not hard for me, ive got ADD and its kinda hard for me to concentrate, so i get side tracked and do something else. or i forget completely. (ive gotten better with h/w). but when i checked my gpa recently i found that it is a 3.275 and im ranked 40th out of 144. i am really dissappointed in myself right now and im freaking out b/c im worried about getting into a real good college. as i said, i know i could have been in the top 10. both my parents are doctors, and i was thinking into getting into medicine or something science. oh and i am a junior as of now. i was wondering if i could get any tips from anyone on what to do to get into a good college?

I'm a high school junior and I did mega bad first semester with a gpa of 1.71. however, I will definitely get a 3.42 this quarter.

my sat scores aren't so good but I can fix them, so far I got:
M:610
R:500
W:550
Total:1660

my extracurriculars:
*I babysit and tutor young children in a poor neighborhood
*I have a part time job at a bakery
*My friends and I started our own band
*Philosophy club at school

Talents:
* I play NINE musical instruments very well
* I speak 5 languages(English, Spanish, Japanese, Bengali, and
Hindi) and I'm gonna learn mandarin chinese over the summer
* I can draw very well, my art has even been posted up at the rec
center in greenbelt

Also, I'm a U.S citizen(but I am of Indian descent) and I have come a long way from a childhood of poverty and abuse. I'm not seeking pity or anything, but will the fact that I have overcome such hardships make any difference?

With all of this, do you think I can get into umcp?
