What will HDMI be used for besides hooking up in-home devices? Will it be run room-to-room in schools or business settings? If I need an HDMI cable for home should I consider one with a "chip" built into the cable that would enable it to go farther?

I just received an LCD flat screen TV as a gift. It has an internal DVD player. Which DVD player will give me the better picture quality: the one it comes with, or an external DVD player hooked up to the TV with component (the red, green, and blue) video cables?

Is it possible to use a woofer instead of a subwoofer on the LFE channel in a 5.1 surround sound system?

Also, if i was to set up a surround sound system, would it be best to connect the video directly to the tv or have it run through a a/v receiver?

I am thinking of buying some good speakers as a part of my home theater system. The home theater is in my living room of about 350-400 square feet. I listen to a lot of rock music - which is a priority for me. But I would also like superior sound effects from my blue-rays discs. Any suggestions? Any specific brands?

I have already posted questions on here about the receiver.

I am making an upgrade. Narrowed down to a Sony STR DG100 or a Onkyo TS-XR605 or 705. Speakers will soon follow and that brings up my question. Speakers I have researched, like the amp, are on a budget. I found the Yamaha NS-555. My question is this. The Yamahas are rated for a max of 250 watts. That is of course not an issue with these amps. However, the "nominal" power is rated at 100 watts. What does this mean? Is this the lowest power suggested to go to these speakers? This would be an issue with one amp. The Onkyo TS-XR605 is rated at 90w per channel. Help me out audio nerds!

I have IO digital cable with 40 HD channels. The digital channels fill up the screen but the HD channels have bars on the top and bottom. They are in 16:9 format and I can use the picture options on my HDTV to make it fit the screen but will that degrade the image?

I saw this home theater Sterio receiver that included 5 speakers. The receiver has two tubes in it. Approximitly how long would the system last. Not really sure about the tubes.

I've been looking for a home sound receiver to compliment my PS3. I'm looking for a sound receiver that is HDMI 1.3 enable that supports Dolby True HD, DTS HD and uncompressed PCM. Is there such machine yet?

Also, i'm a bit ignorant about receivers so if you could educate me as to what to buy I would appreciate it.

I have a 1080P TV (Westinghouse), Sony Receiver (1080P), and a Sony upscaling DVD (1080P). I bought two cables to close the triangle (HDMI from the DVD to the Receiver, and another from the Receiver to the TV). I watched a movie perfectly on Sunday. Today I begin to watch another movie and I turn on the DVD and Receiver. To my surprise, I have to picture. I can hear through the surround sound just fine but no picture. I switched cables around, changed settings, and called Sony Tech. Nothing worked! Their response was that my cables are bad because I can use the regular cables and get picture. Now is this possible for HDMI cables (brand new) stop working. Honestly, two HDMI cables is a little over $100 bucks and they go bad after 1 week. Help!!!!

I have several (older) speakers that my dad gave me. These are quite large, including a 15" subwoofer and mid / high range (tweeters) speakers. These are quite high quality, for back in the day.

I recently purchased a nice 42" Samsung Rear Projection HD TV and love it. I am at the point of adding a receiver/speakers and I am curious if I can utilize these speakers...?

If so, is there a better type of receiver to use for this application?

Okay, so I am a student and I just got my own apartment. Now furnishing this place alone between the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom was expensive enough. Now when it comes to the electronics I wanted a big television and lots of fancy equipment. But parents said heck no out of the question, stick to your books. Now I really can't afford it esp with tuition at 60k a year, but then Rent-A-Center occured to me.

Has anyone ever gotten things from there, I was thinking about a huge LCD or plasma, maybe another computer and audio equipment. Do their things have like big labels on them so that everyone would know its Rent-A-Center? and does anyone know or might have a clue what the monthly cost of this stuff would be?
