I am thinking all I need for a rich sounding hi-fi home stereo system is
1. speakers
2. CD player
3. amplifiers, possibly tube amplifiers

can you tell me if I need anything else? Also can you tell me details on what types of speakers, amps and cd players I should get for a good quality sound?
thanks

I hear the audio when the Video 2 input is selected, however I don't get ANY video, which prevents me from seeing the "Setup" menu to adjust the video input. I feel I'm in a Catch 22 with no way out. I've attempted by using an "S" video cable, and without (using the yellow banana plug).

I just bought my first home theatre (Sony ht-ddw790) and was suprised at the way you connect the speakers to the reciever. Its a wire that sort of splits in two that you plug into the reciever by opening and closing a latch. The part of the wire that is sort of "exposed" that you plug into the reciever looks like it can be easily damaged or even broken off. What can I do if that part of the wire becomes damaged? The wires on the other end are connected to the speakers. I was expecting RCA jacks or something like that.

Can I somehow extend the wires or buy new ones?

Or am I just worrying too much?

The RF input on my HDTV does not work. I am trying to pick up OTA HD signals. I currently have a basic satellite receiver hooked up to one of the composite (RCA) inputs available. Could I hook up a plain old TV antenna through the satellite receiver to pick up the OTA signals or am I doomed to have to spend money on either an HD receiver/tuner with composite (RCA) outputs?

We just got a TV on Friday (40'') and it came with 6 free surround sound speakers (subwoofer, 2 standing ones, 2 small ones and a middle one).

Anyways, yesterday we got a HD box and set it up, then 4 speakers stopped working, but when I unplug the red cord from the back of the TV (or the HD box) those 4 speakers work but the 2 other ones stop working (subwoofer and middle), then when I plug both in only the 2 work, and obviously when I unplug both nothing works.

(These are the red cords [audio] from the HD box --> TV)

I don't have a tv( don't want to have) and i am into listening CD's only. So is it useless to have the 5.1 system just to listen to audio, i.e just for cd?

my second question is, Is there much difference between the refubricated Harman/Kordon system and the new one...atleast what is the visible/audible difference. The new one seems to cost an arm and leg...
thanks

If i am playing my stereo, (a large aiwa with phono/video/aux/cd/etc... inputs), and I reach a certain volume the entire stereo turns itself off. It then proceeds to turn on and off rapidly, as if it is shorting out. It seems to be an internal problem, with the stereo itself and not my speakers.

I am getting a new HDTV. Right now I have a Sony receiver and it is a few years old. I was wondering if I can hook all the audio and video up directly to the tv and then somehow get it to run to my receiver. I dont want to have to run the video to the tv and then stretch the audio cables to my receiver, is it possible to run one audio line from the tv to the receiver??

I have a Philips 5 speaker surround sound st, that came with a DVD player, however, I want not only the DVD player, but the TV and my son's Xbox 360 to hook up to the system.

How would I go about doing this?

I think I need some sort of consolidator box that they can all plug into, but I don't know what I should get.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver. I have a PS3 hooked up to my panel via HDMI with the audio running straight to my Onk via optical. 360 w/add-on hooked up via component with optical audio direct to the receiver as well. Do I get lossless with this set up or do I need a HDMI receiver?

I advance the level on the display screen to about 24 before I even get sound. Then I must increase it to about 34 for normal listening. Is this normal? The folks at Sony can not give me an answer because it is not on their script of questions the work from, where ever they are located.

I have a DVD player with Progressive Scan sockets at the rear (phono type) and my LCD TV has Progressive scan sockets, VGA Socket and an HDMI socket. What i was wondering is that is there a cable or adaptor on the market that has male progressive phono plugs one end and a HDMI plug the other end or male progressive phono plugs one end a VGA plug the other end and would I get better pictures going progressive to HDMI rather than progressive to progressive? Thanks.
Andy.
