hi i am thinking about buying... a laptop with these specs..
850 MHz Intel Celeron Processor
256 DRAM
20 GB harddisk
windows XP
will it be ok to run XP with office and that kind of stuff???
i have a much faster and better desk top for games i just want something to write essays, do some spread sheets and surf the net with from bed jejejeje lazy me

I have a compaq computer with AMD Athlon (tm) XP 3200+ with 2.20 GHz and 1.5 GB of RAM. I don't know why I have lag. I have more than enough RAM and it takes a long time to load some of the games. When I play Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth, my FPS (framerate per second) is around 8 and that's with maximize proformance setting (everything is on low or off). I don't understand why... I shouldn't have this problem; I have a lot of RAM. I think my RAM is broken or something. But I'm not sure. I just want to know how I can upgrade my hardware so that I have a lag-free computer.

Im curious how much imformation 1 gigabyte can hold. In terms of like assignments. I saw a little flash drive with 1 gigabyte and im wondering how much homework i can save on that. Any help?

I have a xps 600 with a 260gb samsung sata hadrive, while reformating the hadrive, something i've done manytimes on older systems running xp and 2000, setup loads drivers then i get to the screen that says press enter to install windows or type R for repair i hit enter then i get the message that setup didn't find any harddrive on my system. I have checked the bios all drives showup I ran CHKDSK no errors on the haddrive, i tried a bootable floppy got the same error during windows xp setup
I thought it might be a RAID controler problem but i only have 1 HD on my system, any tips or suggestions would be apreciated.

the screen goes blue with the message "windows has detected a serious problem and needs to close" then i have to restart in safe mode. i have completely wiped the hard drive and re-installed everything from scratch yet it still does it. i thought i had pinned it down to my new scanner as once i had disconnected it everything was fine. a few days later it did it again(with the scanner disconnected) and i now beleive it to be the actual USB port (of which i have 8). since then i have not used this port and everything is working fine. has anybody ever come across this and more importantly is this the start of something more detremental.

I bought a laptop a month ago and today everything was fine until a bit of tea was spilt over the top (lid closed) i thought it would be ok, i turned it on and it worked fine until a couple of hours later when i went to use it again, the screen is just black, if you turn it to the light you can see the contents. It's just like the brightness has been turned down but it hasn't, any ideas what might be the problem and what i can do? Thanks

i put in my windows setup disk , but says cannot boot from cd..i know the cd works...what other kind of boot is there and how do i get it...also when trying to boot says drivers are missing and to use the setup disc to repair, but it wont or cannot run the disk

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that is in perfectly working condition with the exception of the DVD/CD-RW drive. I had a car crash and the laptops drive broke and is not in working order. When I put in a cd it starts making some strange noises and it starts speeding up. I took it to best buy but they can't fix it.

Is there any way for me to be able to watch dvd's, burn my music onto a cd, etc, even with this problem.

I can't buy a new drive because the laptops side where you put it is sorta dent, so you cant change that. But can I buy something that will enable me to use its features without changing the actual drive.

Any help will be beneficial, thank you!

I've seen lap tops that you just highlight the file and you can drag it if you hold the mouse over the file for a couple seconds without clicking. I want to see if I can do that but I don't know how to change the settings or if it is possible on desktops.

I downloaded Windows media player 11. But it doesn't play some DVDs it says I need to down load some other things. Is there a media player. Preferably made by the dudes of firefox I can download that is more or less thorough in the sense of the files it can reproduce. I'm not looking for a monster that uses up a lot of space. Only something practical. Thank you.

I bought this Prestigio Externo external harddrive abroad last month. It's been working fine since then. But now, when I pug the US cable, it doesn't appear on the My computer list. Other stuff that I plug on the USB slot works fine. 2 of my previous mp3 players acted the same way before. I think it's because of the weather/temperature. Does the coldness freeze the machines? Or is it cuased by other problems and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance!
