the temp gauge goes right up near the red which doesnt seem normal to me, the fan always kicks in and it cools back down to the middle. i could understand if i was driving it hard for like half hour but just a 10 min trip it will do this, is this probably going to end up as a head gasket, if so how much would it cost or could it be something else

A few months ago my check engine light came on. I took my car into Tuffy and had a diagnostic check done and they told me I need a new converter and O2 censors. I have yet to fix either of them. Recently my car has been acting weird when I am driving it. It starts off by my radio turning off and on. Then some of my lights on my dashboard will light up, like my ABS light and another light in the bottom left corner of my dash, along with my check engine light. Then my car will shut off and all of my dials will fall down to zero. Since my car is off, my steering wheel locks so I can only drift straight. Once I stop my car and put it in park, I am often able to restart it right up and continue driving. The problem won't happen again until maybe the next day. Also, sometimes when I get into my car at the store, after having just driven it to the store, it won't start up. I will try a couple times to start it, but I get no sound, not even a slight starting sound. My stereo still works so I figure it can't be my battery. Then after trying to start it a couple times, it finally starts up and I am able to drive away. I have no idea what the problem is, can anybody help me before I take it into the shop and take a chance of getting cheated???

Can tag water damage car paint?
I usually spray tag water to my car w/o drying it (cuz I afraid to scratch my car by wiping it w/o soap bubble), I wonder if this is bad for car paint if I spray water to clean dust on car and let it dry itself ?

I recently purchased an 88 Deville which was driven very little if at all for the 4 years prior to it coming home with me. It has 164K miles.

Electrical prolems are the radio antenna doesn't go down (in perpetual "up" position). The horn doesn't work. The glove-box trunk lock release button didn't work, but miraculously does now. (???)

The biggie is the Air Conditioning, which worked just fine when I got the car, blowing out nice cold air and keeping the car to the desired temp.. I turned it on and used it several times in the first few days, then the service AC light came on. It will operate on ECON, but blows out air that is only slightly cool. If AUTO is pressed, the digital display flashed "AUTO" then immediately goes back to "ECON" display characters. The temp. characters still change. The service AC light comes on immediately when the auto button is pressed, then the light goes out after a few minutes.

Do I have a basket case, or are these problems interrelated? Help?

How hard would it be to replace a water pump in a 2004 jeep liberty sport? When the car is started it makes noises and if you look closely the water pump is moving a bit in and out would that indicate that it is the water pump and if so. What would be the process of getting this fixed? how hard would it be? and how time consuming? I have a warrenty, but it has a 250 deductible and the part in only $50 so would it be better for me to fix or to take to a shop?

I recently bought a second hand Vauxhall Corsa and after a long drive of around 200 miles, the car developed a problem and shuddered to a halt. All the oil had drained and it looked on closer inspection to have drained from a small brass-ringed hole at the bottom right hand side of the oil tank (not the sump), near the oil filter. Having looked at a neighbour's M-reg Corsa it looks like what's missing is a transparent 'plug'...

Until I can ascertain WHAT is actually missing or get it towed to a garage (limited as I work shifts) and have a professional (expensive) look at it i'm gonna just have a lump of metal at the end of my drive...

So I drive a '93 Accord with about 180K miles, still running strong. Every time I go to buy oil I always debate over getting the more expensive high mileage formulation.

Does anyone know if there is actually a proven difference that makes it worth buying over the regular oil, or is it all just a marketing game?

I just bought a 1986 Chevy Van to use as a work vehicle. I have approx $450.00 in the van.
305 eng / standard automatic 3 speed tranny. It has only 78,000 miles on eng & tranny & never has been in to. Over all the van is in very very good condition for the age.
This vehicle set up for approx 5 years & only was cranked up & moved mabey 3 times during this time span.
earlier i replaced tranny filter & tranny oil.
All gears work very well.
I have got it running just about perfect.
Then after approx 30 miles the tranny developed a front seal leak.
My question, Shop wise, approx what would it cost me for this front seal replacement ?
Thank You,
Luke.

I have a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville (not a supercharger) I have been having a strange noise coming from the right side, sounding like a pully getting ready to freeze. I went to town and everything was fine, got home and the car will not turn over. Turn the key and you hear CLUNK and nothing, no attempt to turn. I checked the starter, its fine so I removed the belt and it started it up no problem. A/C has been out for 2 years and assuming that the compressor pulley has froze up on me preventing it to turn over when trying to start. all other pulleys spin with no problem, so how do I go about getting the a/c pulley freed so I can drive my car.

Ok, so my friend recently replaced the brake pads on his wife's Rav4 and noticed right from the beginning that the brakes felt really soft and that the car was barely braking to the point to where he has to reapply the brakes then the car stops. So he is wondering what needs to be done. He claims to have bled the brakes and re-installed everything correctly, but still has problem...

1995 LT1, no major mods

over the course of the last few weeks, my car only starts half of the time. when i try to start it, there is no hesitation, no noises whatsoever, almost like the battery is completely dead. the other day, i started it up fine, drove about 3 houses down, and it completely shut off. again, no hesitation, no noises at all. thank god it was only a few houses down. the car wouldnt start for the rest of the day. just for giggles, i tried starting it up yesterday, and it started BEAUTIFULLY.

what would cause it to start only half of the time, die out, and do all of this with no noise. i have a newer battery and starter, and just got new spark plugs. maybe vats or mas?
