On our truck ( 1990 Ford Ranger, my dad won it from Menards ) we are having a problem. Gas is being sucked into the brake booster. I took it into my Auto Class in school and when we were done with it the brakes gave out. My dad drove it home and we replaced it. Then we looked at it again and can smell gas in it. The truck also doesn't start very good. We changed one of the spark plugs on it too. Our next diagnosis is to look at the fuel injectors. My auto teacher isn't even sure why this is happening. Please help so I can drive it again.

We bought a nice 2003 Ford ranger - very nice truck. However about every 250 miles it will occasionally be hard to put into first or second gear. You really have to slam it in gear, like if you did not have the clutch in. But the clutch is in. We took it to the dealership we bought it from and they say it's not broke! Has anyone had this same kind of problem with their ranger or explorier? It is 4 wheel drive.

The car starts fine when it is warm but if the temp. drops below 45 degrees the car takes a while to start. I thought it was the battery so I installed a new one--didn't fix the problem. When the car does start, I have to rev the engine for about thirty seconds or else the car will stall. While waiting for the car to start, there is a lot of gray exhaust which I take to be excess fuel being burned off. Any suggestions? I took the car in last year with the same problem and the mechanic looked at it for a day and couldn't figure out what was wrong.

I got into my car the other day and the windshield wiper motor still runs but the blades dont move. (The blades move in unison when you push on one of them, they still rotate) I think the linkage might be broke between the motor and the blades themselves. Does anyone know how to repair/replace the linkage. I'm not too bad with cars, so a site with pictures would be cool so I can fix it cheap myself.

I have a Chevy S10 and I want to get more horse power. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on moving the alternator so that the drive shaft (which runs anyhow) turns the alternator to charge the battery.

This is a new issue with the temperature dropping into the 30's recently. The car takes a couple of seconds longer to start after sitting out in the cold overnight. I can re-start it fine anytime afterwards during the day.

I'm looking to buy my first car, and I've heard that Volvos were the most reliable and safest. I'm 22, female and don't know much about cars, so I'm a bit nervous about this whole car buying thing. The volvo I'm looking at is a 1991, four door, white, black leather seats, about 175,000kms. I believe it's a front wheel drive. I will forsure be bringing a male friend with me to the dealership, but he's already told me that he doesn't know much about those cars. Any information you could give me about them would be VERY much appreciated.

A few details: I don't use my car a huge amount, but I do sometimes drive to campus and to the store. I also take trips to visit family that are a few hours out of town. And I've used my car to take longer trips to keep my sanity in grad school. I prefer driving when I go out at night (especially recently, I've been too sore to bike). I live about 4 miles from campus and bike there sometimes. But I don't have a contingency plan for rain days - the bus takes twice as long and there's no one else around with a car that I know. I think I probably want to have a car, the idea of biking to the store to get paint etc for home improvement projects/groceries etc doesn't sound appealing. I do have a roommate but she relies on her bike primarily, and so has often relied on my having a car for longer transport.
