I know the answer to that but I mean in relation to motorcycle safety. My car needs front and rear impact bumbers, steel re-inforced side beams, lap and shoulder belts, front and side air bags, safety glass etc. And a child needs to be in a booster seat until they're 80 or 90 lbs. Yet a motorcycle has no built in safety devices (aside from the operator), you don't need to wear a helmet (some states) and you can just strap your kid onto the back and say "hang on".

Without getting into an argument over bad drivers/cyclists, can someone explain this to me?

I have a transmission slip or hestitation between 2nd and 3rd gear on my 89 nissan truck auto. It has been doing this for a year now but the condition hasn't gotten any better or worse. I checked the fluid several times and it was at the correct level. The fluid was cherry red in color and didn't smell burnt. When I wiped the fluid dipstick on a cloth it did leave a bit of black but the color iteself wasn't dark on the dipstick. Sometimes the slips are more pronounced that at other times. Sometimes I hardly feel anything at all. I only paid $800 for this vehicle and it has been running really good for the past year. Other than regular fluids, filters etc. I haven't spent a nickle on it. I'm just wondering if I a band or linkage adjustment will fix this problem or if I should just leave it alone. If I do have someone look at it will I get taken? I don't really want the transmission to fail by them putting in new, clean fluid which may cause it to slip more or fail completely. Advice?

I had no idea that I'd get blasted like I did! What I should have included in my original question is that we were completely dumbfounded to find out that we were going to receive any money from our insurance company. I didn't ask the question because we intend to get rich or something or just to sue someone for sport. We are not suing anyone!! I asked the question because we didn't expect to have the adjuster ask us what we thought the scar was worth and we had no idea. We paid all the co-pays for the medical expenses and treatments because we thought we were supposed to do just that. The insurance company is just paying us back for that expense and that was a terrific surprise in itself. Neither of us gave any thought to asking for money for my wife's scar and anything we receive will be more than we expected. I was just asking for opinions because we ARE getting money for this WITHOUT asking but we don't know what to expect. We are not greedy slobs looking for a free ride!

I bought my 2002 GRAND AM SE1 ... 9 months ago and I love it! I put soooooo MANY miles on it and consequently I have to give it several oil changes and frequent servicing for regular maintenance ... all part and parcel! Knock on wood ... I haven't had any major problems yet.

I have been looking at various sites where people rate their GRAND AM's and it seems like the more frequent complaints come from Americans. The one other thing I noticed is that mine was made in Canada.

#1 Where are those sold in the US made?

#2 Lets say they were made in Mexico, would there be a
difference in quality much like that experienced by many
disgruntled Volkswagen Jetta owners?

#3 Of those Canadians who own a 2002 Grand Am, are you
generally happy with your car?

I have a 96 cavalier that won't restart after driving it for 15 mins. or so.
If I wait 20 mins or so after shutting it off , it will restart. I've replaced the fuel pump (new). I can hear it running when the car is running.
The gastank is also new and have tried replacing the fuel filter twice. Anyone had this happen?
